The history of this place began in the 1970s when Sinsheimer Park was opened as a multi-functional center for sports and recreation for city residents. Over time, it became the home of the famous SLO Blues baseball team, and its stadium evolved into a major venue for city sporting events. Interestingly, it was here that the city’s first dedicated disc golf course was established.

A landmark stage in the park's life was the massive playground renovation completed in November 2023. The multi-million dollar project was created with active community involvement: architects from RRM Design Group held several workshops, including a special session with children, to understand what the ideal play area should look like. As a result, the playground became more than just a place to play, but a true "destination park."

When designing the updated space, special attention was paid to ecology and inclusivity. Special reservoirs for collecting rainwater are hidden beneath the play areas, and most structures are adapted for children with disabilities in accordance with ADA standards. This transformed the old city park into one of the most modern and well-thought-out recreational spaces in all of California.

A simple stroll through the park to see the main areas takes about 1–1.5 hours. However, if you're planning a visit with children, be prepared to spend at least 3 hours here: the modern play area with its ziplines and slides usually doesn't let little visitors go for a long time.

For sports fans deciding to play a match of tennis or complete the disc golf course, the visit can easily stretch to half a day. In the summer months, during baseball season, many stay for the entire evening to enjoy the game and the festive atmosphere.
