It is not just a place for shopping but a true cultural attraction in Vietnam, attracting both locals and numerous tourists. The market got its name from its location on a former sand dune—the word "cồn" translates from Vietnamese as "hill" or "mound."

History & Facts

The history of Con Market dates back to the 1940s, when a trading area spontaneously emerged on a high sand hill in the center of Da Nang. However, historians claim the market was officially opened only in 1958. This happened because Han Market, the main market at the time, could no longer cope with the growing number of traders and buyers. Initially, Con Market consisted of modest bamboo and thatch structures located at the intersection of two busy streets, now known as Hung Vuong and Ong Ich Khiem.

Major changes occurred in 1984 when a large-scale reconstruction was carried out. It was timed to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang, and according to some reports, the construction work was completed in record time—just 90 to 128 days. As a result, a modern building with an area of 14,000 square meters rose on the site of the old structures. After this, the market was officially renamed the "Da Nang Commercial Center" to reflect its new, more modern status.

Despite the official name change, locals continued to call it by its old name—Con Market. This public affection for the historical name proved so strong that in 2012, the authorities decided to return the market's original name. Today, Con Market is managed by the Da Nang Markets Management and Development Company and continues to play a key role in city life, remaining not only an important trading hub but also a significant cultural center in Vietnam.

Time Needed

When planning a visit to Con Market, it's worth setting aside 1.5 to 3 hours. This will be enough for a general introduction to its vibrant atmosphere, a quick look at the main shopping rows, and souvenir shopping. In one and a half to two hours, you will also have time to try several dishes at the famous food court, which is one of the market's main draws. This format is ideal for travelers with limited time who want a concentrated experience of this colorful place.

If you want to immerse yourself in the atmosphere without rushing, study the variety of goods in detail, haggle with vendors, and leisurely enjoy the gastronomic diversity, feel free to allocate half a day for your visit. This will allow you not only to thoroughly walk through the rows of clothing, souvenirs, and local products but also to have a real tasting marathon at the food court. Ultimately, the time needed depends on your interests: a couple of hours is enough for an introductory walk, but for thoughtful shopping and culinary discoveries, you'll need more time.

Working Hours

Con Market in Da Nang delights visitors with its convenient schedule and accessibility. It is open to everyone daily and year-round. In any case, the market is open throughout the day, making it easy to include in any tourist itinerary.
