Plaza Moreno is not just the main square of La Plata, but its true heart and the starting point for the unique urban layout. Located in Argentina, it is the place where the official founding ceremony of the city took place on November 19, 1882. It is from here, as the center, that the famous diagonal avenues cross the entire city, following its perfectly regular street grid designed by architect Pedro Benoit.
The main highlight of the square is its magnificent architectural ensemble. Two monumental buildings that define the look of the entire city are located here. On one side rises the majestic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, built in the Neo-Gothic style and one of the largest churches in the country. On the other stands the elegant City Hall (Palacio Municipal), built in the German Neo-Renaissance style. Thanks to this combination, the square is considered one of the most beautiful and recognizable in Argentina.

The square, named after one of the figures of Argentine independence, Mariano Moreno, occupies an impressive area of about eight hectares and serves as a popular meeting and recreation spot for both locals and tourists. Well-kept parks with linden trees, cedars, and palms, along with various sculptures, make it a wonderful place for walking and discovering the history and unique atmosphere of La Plata.
