General Weather Conditions

The climate in Barisal can be characterised as tropical, with a clear division into dry and wet seasons. Thanks to its geographical location in the south of the country, warm weather prevails here for most of the year. Travellers should be prepared for the fact that the nature of their holiday will depend heavily on the chosen month: from sunny and dry winter days to a humid and hot summer.

The most favourable time to visit is considered to be the period from November to February. During these months, mild and comfortable weather sets in with minimal rainfall and daytime temperatures in the range of +24...+28°C. With the arrival of March, the air begins to warm up rapidly, reaching peak values in April, when the heat can exceed +34°C.

A striking feature of the region is the prolonged monsoon season, which lasts from May to October. At this time, especially in July and August, it rains almost daily, bringing high humidity, but at the same time slightly alleviating the extreme heat. This period gives nature a riot of colours, however, it requires tourists to have appropriate equipment for protection against frequent tropical downpours.

Temperature

The temperature regime in Barisal is characterised by stable warmth throughout the year, however, travellers should take into account seasonal peaks of heat and cool spells. The hottest period is April and May, when the average temperature holds at the 29.5°C mark. April often brings real sweltering heat: daytime maximums reach 34.4°C, while nights remain very warm (around 24.7°C). The summer months, from June to September, are characterised by a steady temperature background with daytime figures around 31°C and minimal temperature variation, which, combined with high humidity, creates a tropical sauna effect.

The winter season, which lasts from December to February, offers the most comfortable conditions for walks and excursions. The coldest month is considered to be January with an average temperature of 19.3°C. At this time of year, a noticeable contrast between times of day is observed: if during the day the air warms up to a pleasant 24.5°C, then at night the temperature can drop to 14.0°C. Such a temperature difference makes evenings fresh and invigorating, so tourists are recommended to take a light jacket or sweater with them.

Precipitation

In Barisal, precipitation seasonality is clearly expressed, characteristic of the monsoon climate of Bangladesh. The year here is clearly divided into dry and wet periods. The driest and most comfortable time for travel is winter: in January and February, precipitation is practically absent, and the number of rainy days does not exceed one or two per month. This is the ideal time for those who prefer clear skies and dry weather for walks.

With the arrival of spring, the situation begins to change. Already in April, the number of rainy days increases to ten, and May becomes a kind of harbinger of the rainy season, bringing precipitation on more than half the days of the month. However, the real peak of humidity falls on summer: from June to September, it rains very often, bringing vital moisture to the local nature.

The wettest months of the year are July and August. According to statistics, at this time rains can occur literally every day — up to 30 rainy days per month. Travellers planning a trip during this period definitely need to take a reliable raincoat and umbrella with them, as tropical downpours become constant companions. By October, the intensity of precipitation noticeably subsides, and by November the rains practically cease, marking the beginning of a new dry season.

What to Pack

When packing for Barisal, give preference to light and breathable clothing made from natural fabrics such as cotton or linen. Considering that from March to October the average temperature holds around +28...+30°C, you will need t-shirts, loose shirts, and summer trousers. Be sure to take reliable sun protection products with you: cream with high SPF, sunglasses, and headwear, as in the spring months the sun can be particularly active.

Particular attention should be paid to the rainy season, which lasts from May to October: according to statistics, in the summer months precipitation can fall practically daily. During this period, a quality umbrella, a light raincoat, and waterproof footwear that dries quickly (for example, sandals made of moisture-resistant materials) will become indispensable. Due to high humidity, it is also recommended to have insect repellent with you.

If your trip is planned for the winter months (from November to February), the weather will be milder and drier, but in the evenings and at night the temperature may drop to +14...+15°C. For comfort at this time of year, bring along a light cardigan, hoodie, or windbreaker to throw on after sunset. And, of course, in any season you will find comfortable, broken-in footwear useful for long walks around the city.
