The Bangladesh National Zoo is one of the most popular attractions in the country's capital, Dhaka, located in the Mirpur district. As the largest zoo in the country, it attracts a huge number of visitors—both tourists and locals—eager to explore the world of wildlife. The zoo was founded in 1974 and has since become an important center for family vacations and educational excursions.
An impressive variety of fauna lives on the extensive territory of about 75 hectares. Numerous species of mammals, birds, and reptiles are represented here. Visitors can see elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, as well as formidable predators such as lions and the famous Royal Bengal tigers, which are the national symbol of the country. Two large lakes on the zoo's territory become a haven for migratory waterfowl every winter, adding to the picturesqueness of the place.
