The Niterói Contemporary Art Museum (Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói) is one of Brazil's most iconic and recognizable architectural landmarks. Located in the city of Niterói, across the bay from Rio de Janeiro, it rises above the waters of Guanabara, drawing attention with its futuristic shape. This outstanding structure was designed by the legendary Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and is a striking example of modernism.
The museum building is often compared to a flying saucer or a giant lotus flower. Its design consists of a three-story concrete bowl 50 meters in diameter, set on an elegant nine-meter pedestal. A small pool surrounds the base of the building, creating an impressive illusion that the museum is hovering over the water, making it not just an exhibition hall but a work of art in its own right.

Inside the museum is one of the largest collections of contemporary Brazilian art, based on the collection of João Sattamini. In addition to the permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions are held regularly. However, visitors are attracted by more than just art: the museum's panoramic windows offer breathtaking views of Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf Mountain, and the Christ the Redeemer statue, making a visit here truly unforgettable.
