Overview

The climate in Kribi can be described as warm and humid tropical, with distinct equatorial influences. Thanks to its location on the Atlantic coast, the city enjoys practically perpetual summer. The temperature remains remarkably stable: throughout the year, average figures fluctuate within a very comfortable range of +25°C to +27°C, without sudden cold snaps or extreme heat.

There are no distinct seasons typical of temperate latitudes in this region of Cameroon. A slight rise in temperature is observed at the beginning of the year (January-February), while the "coolest" period falls in July and August, when the air warms up to an average of +25°C. This stability makes the city a predictable and pleasant destination regardless of the calendar date.

An important feature of the weather in Kribi is the high humidity and regular rainfall. Rainy days are common throughout the year, and even during the driest months, the sky can be cloudy. Tourists should be prepared for frequent, yet often short-lived, tropical downpours that refresh the air and contribute to the lush bloom of the local exotic nature.

Temperature

Kribi delights travelers with consistently warm weather throughout the year, typical of its equatorial location. There are almost no sharp seasonal changes, so the concept of "winter" is very relative. The hottest period is traditionally from December to March, when the average temperature stays around 27°C, and daytime temperatures often reach 29°C. This is an ideal time for a beach holiday, as the heat is quite palpable.

During the Northern Hemisphere's summer, particularly in July and August, Kribi enters a relative "cool" season. Average temperatures drop to a comfortable 25°C, and daytime highs rarely exceed 26–27°C. This weather is considered milder and more forgiving, making it easier to handle the high humidity and enjoy visiting natural attractions without the risk of overheating.

A characteristic feature of the local climate is the minimal difference between day and night temperatures. The range of fluctuation is very small: even on the "coldest" nights, the temperature rarely drops below 23°C. Evenings and nights here remain truly warm and humid, so you're unlikely to need warm clothes, but light clothing made from natural fabrics will be indispensable around the clock.

Precipitation

Kribi is characterized by a humid climate with rainfall distributed throughout the year. It's difficult to single out a completely dry season, as rain occurs with enviable regularity. Thanks to the consistently high temperatures, precipitation always falls as warm tropical rain, which promotes the lush growth of local vegetation.

The highest volume of precipitation occurs in September (averaging 15 mm), making the start of autumn the wettest period. The summer months and October also see higher figures. Meanwhile, the beginning of the year—January and February—brings the lowest volume of rainfall (from 3 to 5 mm), which might be a more comfortable time to plan your visit.

A specific feature of the weather in this region is the very high frequency of rain. Even in months with low total volume, the number of rainy days remains significant. For example, in July and October, precipitation is recorded almost daily (up to 31 days per month), while in the "driest" month by frequency, April, there are about 25 rainy days. Travelers should be prepared for rain at any moment, so an umbrella or raincoat will be indispensable items in your luggage.

Packing Tips

A trip to Kribi requires preparation for a warm and humid tropical climate. The air temperature stays consistently around +25...+29 °C year-round, so your wardrobe should primarily consist of lightweight items made from natural, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen. Opt for light colors to reflect the sun's rays, and don't forget a head covering—a bucket hat or a wide-brimmed hat to protect against the strong sun.

Given that high humidity and rainfall are common in most months, be sure to pack a compact umbrella or a lightweight rain poncho. Even if the showers are brief, it's better to be prepared. For footwear, comfortable open sandals are ideal for walking around the city and the beach, along with a pair of lightweight, quick-drying sneakers if you plan on taking longer excursions into the surrounding areas.

As this is a popular seaside resort in Cameroon, swimwear is a must. Additionally, the tropical sun requires high SPF sunscreen. It's also highly recommended to bring quality insect repellent for the evenings and a light long-sleeved shirt in case of a fresh sea breeze after sunset.
