The climate in the city of Jiagedaqi can be described as cold temperate with distinct features of a sharp continental climate. The weather here is characterized by strong contrasts between seasons: from extremely freezing winters to mild and humid summers. Travellers should be prepared for low temperatures prevailing for most of the year, while the transitional seasons—spring and autumn—pass quite quickly.

Winter in the region is severe, dry, and long. From November to March, the thermometer consistently stays below zero, reaching average values around -21.5°C in January. Precipitation is practically non-existent during this period. Summer brings radical changes: from June to August, comfortable weather sets in with daytime temperatures up to +25°C. However, the summer months are the rainiest: in July and August, the number of days with precipitation can reach 15–16, which is worth considering when planning your outings.

The climate in Jiagedaqi is distinguished by a sharp contrast between seasons, which is typical for northern latitudes. Winter here is severe, prolonged, and frosty. The coldest month is traditionally January, when the average temperature drops to -21.5°C, and night frosts often reach the -28°C mark. The cold arrives as early as November and holds confidently until the beginning of spring, so a journey during this period requires thorough preparation and very warm equipment.

Summer brings significant warming, yet there is practically no exhausting heat here. The warmest period falls in July, when during the day the air warms up on average to a comfortable +25°C...+26°C. This is the most favourable time for tourism: the weather is mild, allowing you to enjoy walks without the risk of overheating. Even in June and August, daytime temperatures remain in a pleasant range from +21°C to +23°C.

It is worth noting substantial temperature fluctuations throughout the day, especially in the transitional seasons—spring and autumn. The difference between the daily maximum and nightly minimum often exceeds 10–13 degrees. For instance, in May or September, a sunny day can be replaced by a quite chilly night, so dressing in layers will be the best choice for a comfortable stay in the city.

The climate in Jiagedaqi is characterized by clearly defined seasonality of precipitation. The winter period, lasting from November to March, is very dry and frosty here. In the coldest months, such as January and February, precipitation falls extremely rarely—on average only 1–2 days per month. Due to low temperatures dropping below -20°C, moisture turns into light snow, which forms a stable but not too high cover.

The situation changes drastically with the arrival of warmth. Summer is the rainy season, accounting for the peak of humidity. The "wettest" month is July, when about 16 rainy days are recorded. June and August are also distinguished by frequent rainfall (13–15 days), which usually brings pleasant coolness and freshness on warm summer days.

Spring and autumn act as short transitional periods. In April and October, when average temperatures hover around zero, mixed precipitation is possible: rain may be replaced by wet snow. By May, the frequency of rains increases, preparing nature for the summer season, and in November, the amount of precipitation decreases sharply before the onset of the dry winter.

A trip to Jiagedaqi requires a careful approach to packing your suitcase, especially if your journey is planned for the winter months. From November to March, severe frosts reign here, and the temperature often drops below -20°C. During this period, high-quality thermal underwear, a thick down jacket or warm coat, as well as insulated trousers are vital. Pay special attention to footwear: it should have thick soles and natural lining to protect your feet from freezing. A hat, scarf, and warm mittens are mandatory.

In summer, the climate becomes mild and comfortable, but it is worth being prepared for frequent precipitation. July and August are the rainiest months, so an umbrella, raincoat, and waterproof shoes should be in your luggage. During the day, you can wear light clothing, but for the evenings, it is better to take a long-sleeved top or cardigan. In spring and autumn, the weather is changeable, so it is best to dress according to the principle of layering: a combination of a t-shirt, fleece hoodie, and windbreaker will allow you to regulate heat exchange throughout the day.

Regardless of the season, you will need comfortable walking shoes for sightseeing. We also recommend taking sunscreen and sunglasses: in winter, the sun can be very bright reflecting off the snow, and in summer, skin protection is important during long walks.
