The climate in the city of Nenjiang, located in China, can be characterized as sharply continental, with distinct seasons and significant temperature contrasts. Winter here is long, dry, and truly severe: in January, average temperatures hover around -20°C, and nights can be even colder. There is little snowfall, but the frosty air requires travellers to wear their warmest clothing.

Summer, conversely, delights with warmth and high humidity. From June to August, the air warms up to a comfortable +23°C, and sometimes higher, though this is the period when the majority of annual rainfall occurs. The transitional seasons—spring and autumn—are quite fleeting: in May and September, pleasant, moderately cool weather sets in, which is excellent for tourism before the onset of winter chills or summer rains.

When planning a trip to Nenjiang, one should focus not so much on average values as on perceptible daily temperature fluctuations. This feature is especially pronounced in the winter months: in January, night-time readings reach an extreme -26.6°C, while during the day the frost eases to -14.8°C. A difference of more than 10 degrees requires a serious approach to choosing clothing capable of protecting against deep cooling after dark.

The spring and autumn periods are characterized by frequently crossing the freezing point within a single day. In April and October, morning chill with temperatures around -1°C gives way to quite comfortable +9...+11°C by noon. These "temperature swings" create a deceptive impression: a tourist might feel cold at dawn and hot in a winter jacket at the height of the day, so the principle of layering clothing becomes a necessity here.

The summer season also maintains a tendency for fresh nights, which favourably distinguishes the local climate from the stifling tropics. In July, with a daytime maximum of about +27.2°C, the night temperature drops to +18.1°C, providing comfortable conditions for sleeping without air conditioning. A stable amplitude of 9–12 degrees between daylight and dark hours is observed almost all year round.

The climate of Nenjiang is characterized by distinct seasonality in precipitation. The winter period here is very dry: from December to February, a minimal number of wet days is recorded (only 1–2 per month), and the overall precipitation level is close to zero. Due to severe frosts, rare moisture falls exclusively as snow, however, heavy snowfalls happen infrequently, and the snow cover forms slowly.

The main part of precipitation falls during the warm season. Summer, especially July and August, is considered the wettest season. During this period, the number of days with precipitation reaches its maximum—up to 15–16 days a month. Travellers should be prepared for frequent rains, although, judging by average moisture volume figures, they are often short-lived or drizzling.

Spring and autumn serve as transitional stages. In March and April, there is still very little precipitation, but by May the weather becomes more humid. In autumn, the reverse trend is observed: while it rains quite often in September (about 11 days), by October and November the probability drops sharply, preparing the region for a dry winter.

Preparing for a trip to Nenjiang requires careful study of the calendar, as the climate here is distinguished by sharp contrasts. If your journey is planned for the period from November to March, prepare for a severe winter: temperatures often drop below -20°C. In this season, high-quality thermal underwear, a thick down jacket designed for extreme frosts, and insulated boots with thick soles are vital. Do not forget a hat, scarf, and mittens—long walks will be impossible without them.

Summer, on the other hand, brings pleasant warmth, but with it comes the rainy season. In July and August, when the air warms up to +23...+27°C, it is worth preferring light clothing made from natural fabrics. However, considering that half the month can be rainy, be sure to put a reliable umbrella or a compact raincoat in your suitcase, as well as waterproof footwear for comfortable movement around the city.

For spring and autumn, the principle of layering will be the ideal solution. In these transitional periods, the weather is changeable: it can be sunny during the day, and turn sharply cold by evening. Fleece jackets, vests, and windbreakers will help you easily adapt to temperature changes.
