General Weather Overview

Qionghai is characterized by a humid tropical climate, creating an atmosphere of eternal summer. The weather in this region of China is distinguished by its mildness and lack of sharp temperature changes, making the city comfortable to visit practically all year round. Even in the "coldest" winter months, such as January, the air warms up to an average of +20°C, allowing tourists to enjoy the warmth without exhausting heat.

Throughout the year, seasonality is clearly observed, linked not so much to cold as to rainfall. Winter and early spring are a dry and comfortable period with minimal rain and plenty of sunny days. Summer brings a rise in temperature to +29°C...+30°C and high humidity, creating classic tropical resort conditions.

Travellers should pay special attention to the distinct rainy season, which lasts from May to October. During this period, especially in August and September, the number of rainy days increases significantly — precipitation can occur on more than 20 days a month. However, tropical downpours are often short and intense, quickly replaced by sunshine, which gives the local nature a special lushness and vibrancy.

Temperature

Qionghai features a mild and warm climate that persists almost all year round, making the city an attractive destination regardless of the season. Even during the nominal "winter" period, the weather remains very comfortable: the coolest months are January and December with averages around 20°C. At this time, nights bring only a slight freshness (around 17–18°C), while during the day the air warms up to a pleasant 22–24°C, which is ideal for long walks and sightseeing without exhausting heat.

Summer in the region is truly tropical, hot, and humid. The temperature peak occurs in June, when average values reach 29.6°C, and daytime heat regularly exceeds the 32°C mark. High temperatures, accompanied by frequent rainfall, persist until September. Travellers planning a trip in July or August should be prepared for the stuffy weather characteristic of the rainy season, when high humidity intensifies the sensation of heat.

Transitional seasons, such as spring and late autumn, offer a golden mean for relaxation. By April, stable warmth around 26°C sets in, while November delights with mild figures in the region of 23–24°C. A characteristic feature of the local climate is the small amplitude of daily fluctuations: the difference between day and night temperatures is usually small, which creates a consistently comfortable atmosphere and eliminates the need to bring a lot of warm clothing.

Precipitation

The nature of precipitation in Qionghai depends directly on the time of year, dividing the calendar into a distinct wet season and a period of relatively dry weather. Since the city is located in a warm climatic zone, there is no snow here, and moisture falls exclusively in the form of rain. This feature is definitely worth considering when planning your wardrobe.

The rainy season here is quite long: it covers the entire summer and continues into autumn. The peak of precipitation falls on August and September, when the number of rainy days can reach 23–24 per month. A high probability of rain also persists in July and October. During this period, travellers are strongly advised to carry an umbrella or a high-quality raincoat.

If your goal is to catch as many clear days as possible, it is better to plan your trip for the winter period. The driest months are December and February, when the number of days with precipitation is minimal (only 7–8 per month). In January, rains happen slightly more often — about 12 days, however, even this figure is significantly lower than summer values, making winter a comfortable time for excursions.

What to Pack

A trip to Qionghai requires preparation for a warm and humid climate. Since summer here is long and hot, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C, the basis of your wardrobe should consist of light items made from natural breathable fabrics, such as cotton or linen. Given that a large number of rainy days (up to 24 days a month) is observed from May to October, be sure to take a compact umbrella or a light raincoat that will not take up much space in your luggage but will save you from frequent rainfall.

Winter months, from December to February, delight with mild weather with an average temperature of about 20°C. At this time of year, there is no exhausting heat, but evenings can be cool (down to 17°C), so the principle of layering will be very useful: bring a sweatshirt, windbreaker, or light cardigan. For walking around the city and sightseeing, choose comfortable shoes; sandals are suitable for hot days, while closed sneakers will be useful in cooler or rainy weather.

Do not forget about important small things for a comfortable holiday. The sun in this region is active all year round, so high SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are mandatory for protection against ultraviolet radiation. Also, given the high humidity, it is worth packing insect repellent in your suitcase. If you are planning a holiday by the water, be sure to take swimwear, as even in the "coldest" months, the weather often remains comfortable enough.
