Exploring the historical heritage of České Budějovice is incomplete without a visit to the Iron Maiden: Tavern and Museum. This four-story 14th-century Gothic tower once served as part of the city's formidable fortifications. Located at the confluence of the Vltava and Malše rivers, it is one of the two surviving towers of the ancient city walls.

In the Czech Republic, this site is famous not only for its architecture but also for its unique museum exhibition dedicated to King Ottokar II of Bohemia (Přemysl Otakar II). Inside the tower, guests can see historical documents, artifacts from the era, and a replica of the famous medieval torture device — the "Iron Maiden" — which gave the site its modern name. The tower has preserved its medieval atmosphere with massive walls and 15th-century wooden ceilings.
In addition to the historical section, the site attracts tourists with a cozy traditional Czech pub (hospůdka) located right at the foot of the tower. This combination of cultural enlightenment and the chance to taste local cuisine in an ancient setting makes the "Iron Maiden" one of the most atmospheric attractions in the region.
