Beneath the vaults of the monastery in the historic center of Brno lies one of the most mysterious and impressive places Czechia has to offer — the Capuchin Crypt. Established in the mid-17th century, this burial crypt is renowned across Europe for the phenomenon of natural mummification of the bodies resting within its walls.

The crypt's main feature is that the remains of the Capuchin monks and their noble patrons have survived to this day without any embalming. This was made possible by the specific soil composition and a unique ventilation system that maintained the ideal temperature regime for centuries. Today, visitors can see more than 40 mummified bodies, which stand as silent witnesses to the history and faith of the past.
As part of the Capuchin Monastery complex, the crypt embodies the asceticism and humility of the order. In addition to the burials, you can see rare relics here, such as the remains of Saint Clementina, and admire the austere Early Baroque architecture. This place attracts those seeking a touch of authentic history and those ready to reflect on eternity in the silence of the monastic vaults.
