Al Matariyah

Current Weather

Planning a visit to Al Matariya? In this section, you will find the latest meteorological data and a detailed forecast to help you perfectly plan your stay in Egypt.

Overview

Al Matariya is dominated by the arid climate typical of Egypt, characterized by hot and dry air for most of the year. Its geographical position in Northeast Africa dictates the prevalence of desert air masses, making precipitation a rare and insignificant occurrence.

Throughout the year, the city has two distinct main seasons: a long and extremely hot summer, and a mild winter, which is considered the most comfortable time for travelers. The transition periods—spring and autumn—are quite short but offer pleasant warmth without exhausting heat.

The main feature of the local weather is its incredible stability and a near-total absence of prolonged rain. Tourists can expect plenty of sunlight, clear skies, and dry air, which makes high temperatures easier to bear.

Temperature

Temperatures in Al Matariya show a significant range: from a cozy 15°C in the heart of winter to an impressive 45°C during the summer in the inland regions of Egypt. In winter, from December to February, daytime hours offer spring-like warmth of around +20...+26°C, though the air cools rapidly after sunset to +12...+18°C, a reminder of the nearby desert.

Summer comes into its own as early as June. July and August are traditionally the hottest months, with temperatures in the shade consistently hitting +35...+36°C, while the night brings only relative relief at around +25°C. During this period, the heat is characterized by its dryness, which is typical for the continental part of the country.

Spring and autumn serve as comfortable bridges between the seasons. In March and April, the air warms up to a pleasant +25...+28°C, and by October, the heat subsides to similar levels. It is important to remember the diurnal temperature variations: even in warm months, the difference between daytime highs and nighttime lows can be 10-15 degrees.

Precipitation

For those who don't like umbrellas and raincoats, Al Matariya is an ideal vacation spot. The city is located in one of the driest regions on the planet, where a classic "rainy season" simply does not exist. Most of the year, the sky remains cloudless, and the chance of being caught in a downpour is close to zero.

Brief and extremely sparse precipitation is only possible in winter and early spring. Statistically, February and March are considered the "wettest" months in Egypt; however, even then, the rainfall in Al Matariya does not exceed 8-9 mm, which is many times less than the norm for most European cities. Snow in this region is an absolute anomaly.

Humidity here is also low, though in spring months like April, it can fluctuate between 56-79% due to the influence of winds. Overall, the dry air helps make the daytime heat more bearable, but it requires careful attention to hydration, as moisture loss from the body occurs imperceptibly.

Packing Tips

When packing for Al Matariya, opt for natural fabrics. In summer, the best choice is loose-fitting clothes made of linen and cotton in light colors—they not only allow the skin to breathe but also protect against intense UV rays. If your trip to Egypt is planned for winter, be sure to bring a light jacket, sweater, or blazer, as it becomes noticeably cooler after sunset.

Regardless of the season, your main companion should be a "protection kit": sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat or cap, and sunscreen with a high SPF. Solar activity in this region is extremely high year-round, even when the sky appears slightly hazy.

Given the windy weather characteristic of spring, it is useful to have a light windbreaker to protect against dust and sand. As for footwear, it is better to choose comfortable closed models or reliable sandals with secure straps to stay comfortable during long walks.
