General Weather Overview

Picturesque Savusavu, located in the Fiji Islands, welcomes travellers with a classic tropical climate. An eternal summer reigns here, creating wonderful conditions for relaxation at any time of the year. The weather is distinguished by enviable stability: there are practically no sharp temperature changes, and the air always remains warm and comfortable.

The temperature regime changes insignificantly throughout the year. Average indicators vary from +24°C in the "cooler" months (July-August) to +26.5°C at the height of the warm season (January-February). Such mild weather allows you to enjoy beach holidays and water sports without exhausting heat, which is often softened by a pleasant sea breeze.

Despite the year-round warmth, there is a noticeable seasonality in rainfall. The period from December to April is considered the wet season, when the number of rainy days significantly increases. From June to September comes a drier period, ideal for those who prefer clear skies, although short-term tropical showers are possible even at this time, refreshing the lush greenery of the region.

Temperature

The climate in Savusavu is distinguished by enviable stability and a mild tropical character, making this resort attractive to visit at any time of the year. The hottest period falls at the beginning of the calendar year, coinciding with the local summer. In January and February, the average air temperature holds at 26.5°C, and during the day, the air steadily warms up to 28.5°C. This time is characterized by warmth and high humidity, creating a classic tropical atmosphere.

The nominal "winter" arrives in June and lasts until the end of August, bringing pleasant freshness. This is the ideal season for travellers who prefer to avoid intense heat. The coolest month is considered August with an average temperature of about 23.9°C. However, even during this period, it is not cold at all: during the day, the thermometer confidently reaches 25.8°C, which allows for enjoying beach leisure and walks without the risk of overheating.

A characteristic feature of the weather in the region is the minimal temperature difference between day and night. The amplitude of fluctuations usually does not exceed 4 degrees, so evenings here remain warm and cosy all year round. In the warmest season, the night temperature does not drop below 24°C, and in the cool months (July-August), minimum values are a comfortable 22°C, which eliminates the need to bring many warm clothes.

Precipitation

Precipitation in the city of Savusavu is distributed throughout the year with noticeable seasonality, characteristic of a tropical climate. One can distinguish a wetter period, which lasts from December to April, and a relatively dry season during the Southern Hemisphere winter months. Even in the driest periods, the probability of rainfall remains, which ensures the lush greenery of the local nature.

The peak of rainy weather falls at the beginning of the year. January and March are the record holders for the frequency of rainfall: in these months, from 29 to 30 rainy days are recorded, and the average precipitation level reaches 12–15 mm. At this time, it rains almost daily, often in the form of warm tropical downpours, which can be both short-term and prolonged.

The most favourable time for those who prefer clear weather is June, July, and August. During this period, the amount of precipitation decreases to a minimum — about 2–3 mm per month. The frequency of rains also drops noticeably: in June and August, the number of days with precipitation is about 14, making this the driest time of the year in Fiji, although one should not completely rule out short-term rains.

What to Pack

When planning a trip to Savusavu, prefer light and breathable clothing made from natural fabrics such as cotton or linen. Since the average air temperature here stays at a comfortable +24...+26°C all year round, the basis of your wardrobe should be T-shirts, shorts, loose trousers, and light dresses. Be sure to take several sets of swimwear, as beach holidays in Fiji are relevant in any season.

It is important to consider the high humidity and the likelihood of precipitation: even in the "dry" months (June–August), rain is not uncommon here, and from January to March, it can rain almost daily. Therefore, a light rain poncho, which does not take up much space, or a compact umbrella will be indispensable items in your suitcase. It is recommended to choose clothes that dry quickly and to bring waterproof cases for electronics and documents.

Do not forget about protection from the sun and insects. The tropical sun is active even in cloudy weather, so a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and high SPF cream are mandatory. For footwear, comfortable sandals with secure fastening are best for walks, and flip-flops for the beach. If you plan on active leisure, pack light sneakers in your luggage, and special coral shoes may be useful for entering the water.
