Above the ancient streets of the town of Lahr rises its most recognizable symbol — the Stork Tower (Storchenturm). This majestic structure is the only surviving northern element of the medieval "water castle" Tiefburg, which once defined the appearance of the entire settlement. The tower's architecture clearly reflects the Late Staufen style, reminiscent of the famous castles of Sicily, making it a unique monument for this part of Germany.

The landmark earned its unusual name from the white storks that for centuries chose the top of the tower for their nests. The birds were constant inhabitants of this spot until the 1960s, drawn by the proximity of the marshy Schutterniederung meadows. Today, the tower serves not only as a historical landmark but also as a cultural space where the past meets the present.
Visitors can step inside to explore a small exhibition dedicated to the history of the fortress or climb to the observation deck. From there, a breathtaking panoramic view opens up over the tiled roofs of the old town and the picturesque foothills of the Black Forest, allowing you to fully experience the charm of this region.
