The zoo is home to an impressive collection of animals: approximately 4,500 individuals, representing about 320–450 different species from all continents. Here you can find a wide variety of animals—from gorillas and orangutans in the huge tropical “Darwineum” pavilion to polar bears and penguins in the modern “Polarium” exhibit. The enclosures are designed to be as close to the natural habitat as possible.
Rostock Zoo is not only a place for entertainment but also an important scientific and conservation center. It actively participates in international programs for the conservation of endangered species and pays great attention to educational activities. Visitors can look forward to fascinating themed exhibits dedicated to evolution and the opportunity to learn a lot about the animal world. A walk through its picturesque alleys, which include a historical rhododendron grove and an oak alley, will be an unforgettable adventure for the whole family.
