Overview

The climate of Alamos is characterized by warm and sunny conditions throughout most of the year, making it an attractive destination for travelers. Overall, the weather can be described as semi-arid and hot, with a clear distinction between dry periods and the rainy season. Thanks to its location in the foothills, extreme cold is never an issue here, and there are plenty of sunny days in any season.

Temperature patterns in the city transition from mild winters to hot summers. The winter months, from December to February, are very comfortable: daytime temperatures reach a pleasant +25…+26°C, although nights can be cool, with temperatures around +9…+10°C. The hottest time of year is the period just before the rains begin, especially June, when daytime highs can exceed +37°C.

A notable feature of the weather in Alamos is the pronounced rainy season, which occurs in the second half of summer. While spring (especially April and May) is exceptionally dry and cloudless, the number of rainy days increases sharply in July and August, reaching its peak. These summer showers bring welcome refreshment and transform the surrounding landscapes, making them greener and more picturesque.

Temperature

Climatic conditions in Alamos are characterized by significant temperature contrasts throughout the year. The hottest month is June, when the average temperature reaches 30.0°C, and daytime maximums often exceed the 37°C mark, creating truly sweltering conditions. Conversely, January is considered the coolest period, though even then, mild weather prevails: the average temperature is around 17.4°C, avoiding any harsh cold.

The summer season begins with high temperatures: as early as May, the air warms up to 35°C and above. July and August remain hot with average maximums around 34°C, but feature warmer nights (around 24°C) compared to the spring period. Winter in Alamos is very comfortable and resembles a warm summer in temperate latitudes: from December to February, daytime temperatures stay at a pleasant 25–26°C, which is ideal for sightseeing.

It is important for travelers to consider the significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, especially in the winter and spring months. For example, in January and February, after a warm day when the air warms up to 26°C, the night temperature can drop sharply to 9–10°C. This range requires a smart choice of wardrobe: you'll be comfortable in light clothing during the day, but a warm jacket or sweater will definitely be needed for evening walks.

Precipitation

The climate in Alamos is characterized by a clear division into a dry season and a rainy season, which is typical for this region of Mexico. For most of the year, sunny and dry weather prevails. From October to June, the probability of precipitation is extremely low. April and May are particularly dry, with statistics showing almost no rainy days and precipitation levels staying at zero.

The picture changes dramatically in mid-summer. July and August are considered the wettest months of the year. During this period, the number of days with precipitation rises sharply: about 21 are recorded in July, and around 20 in August. Despite the high frequency of rain, the total volume of precipitation remains moderate, which often means short-lived but regular showers that bring freshness to hot days.

By September, the intensity of the rainy season begins to subside—the number of rainy days decreases to 14, gradually giving way to a dry autumn. In winter months like December and January, rain is extremely rare, occurring only 2–3 days per month. Given the warm temperatures even during the coldest period, precipitation in Alamos falls exclusively as rain, and snow should not be expected.

Packing Tips

Traveling to Alamos requires a thoughtful approach to packing, especially considering the hot climate of this region of Mexico. Throughout the year, you will need light clothing made of natural, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen, as daytime temperatures often exceed 25–30°C and can reach 35–37°C in May and June. Don't forget reliable sun protection: a wide-brimmed hat, high-quality sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen are essential. For exploring colonial architecture and walking along cobblestone streets, bring comfortable, broken-in flat shoes.

If you plan to visit during the summer or early autumn (especially July and August), be prepared for the rainy season. During these months, precipitation and humidity increase significantly, so a compact umbrella or a light raincoat will be your best companions. At this time of year, it's better to opt for quick-drying clothes and carry insect repellent, as bug activity increases in humid weather.

For a trip in the winter months (December – February) and late autumn, layering is key. The weather remains warm and comfortable during the day, but nighttime temperatures can drop to +9...+10°C. Be sure to pack a warm sweater, cardigan, or a light windbreaker to stay cozy during evening walks or while enjoying morning coffee on the terrace.
