Built to defend the city from attacks from the sea, the Citadel is a powerful and completely autonomous complex. Inside its impenetrable walls, which are themselves a model of fortification art, all the necessary elements for withstanding long sieges were located. Here you can see the ruins of the medieval Church of Saint Mary, which gave the fortress its second name, as well as ancient gates, squares, and the buildings of former barracks, each of which holds echoes of the past.
The multi-layered structure of the fortress walls provided the Citadel with exceptional strength and made it practically impenetrable to enemies. Walking through its territory, you can not only touch history but also enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea and the picturesque rooftops of the Old Town. Today, the Budva Citadel is not just a historical site, but a place where the past comes alive, offering visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of medieval Budva.
