Kamedi-Park Razvlecheniy "Rimskaya Imperiya"

About

You can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of antiquity without leaving modern Gelendzhik at the unique Roman Empire show park. This is the country's first large-scale historical reconstruction project, an interactive open-air museum. Nestled in a shaded forest just a few kilometers from the city center, the park transports guests to an era of great conquests and gladiatorial triumphs.

The creation of the park in this part of Russia is no coincidence: it is based on real archaeological facts about the existence of the ancient Roman port of Pagry here. Across a vast area of 7,000 hectares, exact replicas of ancient buildings, military equipment, and household items have been recreated, allowing you to literally touch history with your own hands.

Visitors can expect detailed locations: from a rugged military camp to a gladiators' school and a majestic arena. The Roman Empire is a harmonious blend of an educational process and an exciting show, making it an ideal place for family vacations and deep immersion into the culture of an ancient civilization.

What to Do

Visitors can expect more than just a walk through the scenery, but full participation in the life of an ancient settlement. The program is divided into several themed zones. In the Roman Military Camp, you can see working siege engines, explore the armory, and even take a short legionnaire training course under the guidance of experienced animators.

A particular highlight for guests is the Gladiator School, where training for future fighters takes place on a specially equipped area with an obstacle course. The bravest can try their hand at ancient training equipment and then head to the Arena to see spectacular bouts between professional athletes, recreated with striking accuracy.

In addition to the show, the park offers many interactive activities. There are pottery workshops, and you can test out projectile machines at the ancient shooting range. Actors in authentic costumes — from slaves to centurions — constantly interact with the public, creating a unique sense of complete immersion in the past.

Getting There

Getting to the ancient world is quite easy: the site is located just 5 kilometers from the city center along the Sukhumskoye Highway. If you are planning a trip by car, drive along the highway towards Arkhipo-Osipovka, following the signs. Convenient parking for visitors is provided on the park grounds.

For those who prefer public transport, buses and minibuses (marshrutkas) heading towards Arkhipo-Osipovka are suitable. You should get off at the "Roman Empire Park" stop or the one closest to it. A taxi ride from the city center will take about 10–15 minutes and cost approximately 300–500 rubles.

Since the park is located in a picturesque forest area, part of the path may be on dirt tracks. For maximum comfort during your walk, be sure to wear comfortable sports shoes.

History & Facts

The history of this place is closely intertwined with the distant past of the Black Sea coast. Back in 63 BC, an ancient Roman port-fortress named Pagry was founded on the site of the modern city. Later, archaeologists discovered the remains of a watchtower from the time of Emperor Nero nearby, confirming the presence of the great empire in these parts nearly two thousand years ago.

In ancient times, the region was within Rome's sphere of interest as an important trade and strategic hub. These archaeological finds and rich heritage inspired the creators to reconstruct ancient life. The theme park opened its gates in 2017, becoming a unique project in the country where history comes to life in an interactive format.

Today, the park does more than just entertain; it also fulfills an important educational mission. It popularizes ancient culture through gamified methods, making the study of antiquity accessible and exciting even for the youngest guests. Every detail, from legionnaire armor to the blueprints of siege engines, has been recreated based on real historical models.

Time Needed

To fully experience the ancient atmosphere and not miss anything important, you should set aside 3 to 4 hours for your visit. This is enough time to watch the main shows at all the venues, participate in training sessions, and view the weapons exhibition.

If you plan to participate in workshops, such as firing siege engines or pottery, allow an extra hour. The park offers such a rich interactive program that time flies by for both children and adults.

Working Hours

The park is open to visitors daily, making it easy to fit into your vacation schedule. The gates of the ancient city open at 10:00 AM and close at 5:00 PM. The operating schedule is the same for all days of the week, from Monday to Sunday, with no lunch breaks.
