The main treasure of this site is the medium-mineralized saline-alkaline water "Essentuki No. 4". It forms deep underground over more than 800 years, becoming saturated with valuable elements under the influence of the dormant giant—Mount Elbrus. The natural pressure is so great that the water rises on its own from a depth of up to 1,000 meters to reach your glass.

This gallery is not just a functional facility, but an important part of the resort's cultural landscape. The combination of historical significance and modern architecture makes visiting the pump room a must-do for any traveler.

What to Do

The main reason thousands of guests come here is, of course, for tasting and drinking the mineral water. You can try the famous water directly from the source, which is considered the most effective way to improve health for digestive and metabolic conditions.

In addition to the healing treatments, visitors can enjoy the interior aesthetics. The marble-clad walls and elegant mosaic panels create an atmosphere of tranquility and solemnity. It is a great place to slow down and feel the rhythm of one of the oldest resorts.

Since the pump room is located in the central part of the Resort Park, a visit here easily turns into a pleasant walk. After drinking the water, it is recommended to stroll along the alleys, breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the views of the park architecture.

Getting There

Reaching this iconic landmark is quite simple. The pump room is located in the heart of the city's Resort Park. If you are arriving from another region, the most convenient way is to fly into Mineralnye Vody Airport, from where taxis, buses, and electric trains regularly run to the city.

Within the city, the park is easily accessible on foot if you are staying in the central area, or you can use local shuttle buses (marshrutkas) that stop near the park entrances. Coordinates for navigation: 42.8640926, 44.045313.

History & Facts

The history of the mineral riches for which Essentuki is famous began in the early 19th century. Between 1809 and 1811, the Moscow physician Dr. Fedor Petrovich Haass discovered unique saline-alkaline springs in the Bugunta River valley. His scientific report became the starting point for the resort's development, and in March 1812, Emperor Alexander I honored the doctor with a high award—a diamond ring—for this discovery.

Later, in 1823, Professor A. P. Nelyubin conducted an even deeper study, discovering 20 new springs. It was he who introduced the now-legendary numbering system, dividing them into groups. Spring No. 4 quickly gained recognition and was eventually named the "Pearl of the Caucasian Mineral Waters."

The modern pump room building that tourists see today was erected in 1967 on the site of an old summer pavilion. In 2006, the structure underwent a large-scale reconstruction, preserving its aesthetic appeal and its functionality as a medicinal facility.

Time Needed

A standard visit to the gallery for water tasting usually takes 30 to 60 minutes. This is enough time to slowly enjoy the healing drink and admire the building's interior decor.

If you plan to combine your drinking course with a full walk along the shaded alleys of the Resort Park, it is better to set aside half a day. Keep in mind that medicinal water is recommended to be sipped slowly, following medical advice.

Working Hours

A unique feature of this pump room is that it is open to visitors 24/7. You can stop by at any time of the day or night, 7 days a week, including holidays.

Nonetheless, it is recommended to check the city's official information resources before your trip to ensure there are no technical breaks or scheduled maintenance hours.
