History & Facts

The history of this place is inextricably linked to the "Garden City" concept, which began to be realized in Kratovo at the end of the 19th century. The land, once owned by the Prozorovsky-Golitsyn family, was purchased to create a dacha settlement for railway workers. Kratovo Pond itself appeared in the early 20th century: workers manually excavated sand here for the construction of a railway embankment, after which the Khripanka River bed was dammed, and the resulting pit filled with clean water.

During the Soviet years, the pond became a real cultural center. The Ministry of Railways' cultural base operated here with a summer cinema and a dance floor. Interestingly, the marble bridge seen today is a 1999 reconstruction, carefully carried out by local residents. This bridge is so significant to the local identity that its image graces the official coat of arms of the settlement.

In the early 1960s, the pond's banks were further reinforced with willows planted by local school children. Today, these old trees create the unique atmosphere of comfort that modern tourists value so highly.

Time Needed

To simply walk around the pond and see the main spots, you will need about 1–2 hours. If you plan a full day of relaxation with swimming, boat rentals, or a family picnic in the shade of the pines, it's better to set aside 3 to 5 hours for your trip.

For avid fishermen or those who want to take a long walk along the nearby forest trails in search of berries and mushrooms, Kratovo Pond Beach can be an excellent full-day destination.

Working Hours

Kratovo Pond Beach is open for visitors at any time. The recreation area is open 24/7 (round the clock) every day of the week, from Monday to Sunday. This allows guests to arrive at dawn for a solitary walk or late in the evening to admire the lights reflecting in the water.
