In the heart of the ancient city of Tver lies one of the most original and witty cultural spaces that Russia proudly features on its tourism map. The Museum of the Goat is a unique private collection dedicated to the multifaceted image of this animal in history, culture, and folklore. Founded in 2008 by professional historian Vladimir Lavrenov, the museum evolved from a whimsical idea into a serious educational and scientific platform.

The collection includes over 6,500 exhibits brought from forty countries. Here you can find everything from ancient coins and medieval coats of arms to modern toys and household items. The museum is divided into three thematic halls. In the first, guests learn about the goat as a phenomenon of world civilization; the second is entirely dedicated to the legendary "Tver goats"; and the third serves as a space for temporary exhibitions on heraldry and rare artifacts.
Archaeological finds, such as Roman figurines and Byzantine statuettes, as well as extremely rare items like Masonic mugs, are of particular value. This is a place where serious science meets kind humor, allowing visitors to take a fresh look at familiar symbols and learn why the goat became the unofficial but much-loved brand of the Tver region.
