In the heart of the ancient city of Kostroma, on Sovetskaya Square, stands the majestic Monument to Yuri Dolgorukiy. This bronze monument is 4.5 meters high and weighs over four tons. It is more than just a city landmark; it is an important historical symbol, reminding residents and guests of the legendary founder of the city in the great country of Russia.

The sculpture depicts the prince sitting on a carved bench, dressed in formal robes and the famous Monomakh's Cap. His right hand points commandingly toward the Volga, as if choosing the site for the future settlement, while his left hand holds a heavy sword. Of particular note is the sword's hilt, shaped like a cross and topped with a crown, emphasizing the unity of state and spiritual power at that time.
The authors of this impressive project were sculptor Vladimir Tserkovnikov, architect G.L. Morozov, and artist S.I. Kadyberdeev. The monument was grandly unveiled in 2003 for the 850th anniversary of the city, with funds for its construction raised by the entire community—both local entrepreneurs and ordinary citizens contributed. Today, this site has become a signature landmark of the city center.
