How to get to Qurayyat

Getting There: Introduction

When planning an itinerary through northern Saudi Arabia, it is worth including Qurayyat — a strategically important city in the Al Jouf Province, renowned for its vast olive groves and proximity to the state border. If you decide to visit this distinctive corner of the Kingdom, getting there is straightforward. Travel Tips

A trip to Qurayyat is an opportunity to experience the unique northern character of Saudi Arabia; however, the journey requires consideration of local customs and traditions. To ensure your visit is as comfortable and seamless as possible, we have prepared a list of important recommendations.

  1. Clothing and Climate. Since the city is located in the north, winters here can be quite cool, so be sure to bring a warm jacket during the cold season. In summer, opt for light, natural fabrics, but keep the dress code in mind: clothing should be modest, covering shoulders and knees, for both men and women.
  2. Transport. Public transport within the city is not very widely developed, so for freedom of movement, it is best to rent a car or use official taxi services. This is particularly relevant if you plan to explore the surrounding areas.
  3. Finances. The national currency is the Saudi Riyal (SAR). Major supermarkets and hotels accept bank cards without issues, but for visiting traditional souqs and small shops, be sure to carry cash, preferably in small denominations.
  4. Health and Safety. Qurayyat is a peaceful city, but do not forget basic safety precautions. The sun here is very strong, so always use sunscreen and wear a head covering. It is recommended to drink only bottled water.
  5. Communication. The main language of communication is Arabic. English may be understood in hotels and at the airport, but it is less common within the city. We recommend installing a translation app on your smartphone that works offline.
  6. Local Etiquette. Saudis are very hospitable but value respect for traditions. Greet people with the words "As-salamu alaykum". Remember that it is customary to pass items, money, or take food only with your right hand.
  7. What to Avoid. Strictly refrain from photographing local residents (especially women) without their explicit permission. It is also prohibited to photograph government buildings, police stations, and military facilities.
  8. Extra Tip. The region is famous for its olive groves. Do not miss the opportunity to taste and buy local olive oil — it is considered some of the best in the country and makes for an excellent, healthy souvenir.

Observing these simple rules will help you show respect for the local culture and avoid awkward situations. By preparing in advance, you will be able to fully focus on exploring the sights and atmosphere of this interesting city.
