What to Do

For fans of dynamic spectacles, Halmstad Arena offers a rich calendar of sporting events. Here, you can witness intense matches in handball, volleyball, futsal, or ice hockey, and see performances by famous teams such as the Halmstad Hammers or the Hylte/Halmstad volleyball club. Table tennis enthusiasts will appreciate the atmosphere of the halls that hosted the World Championships.

Families with children should definitely visit the Halmstad Arena Lido water park. It is one of the best aquatic centers in the region, featuring two steep slides, a jacuzzi, a "lazy river," and diving towers. If you prefer extreme sports on land, head to the 2,000 m² skate park, where skateboarding, rollerblading, and BMX are permitted, and you can even legally practice graffiti art on the special Halmstad Wall.

Don't forget to stop by the Halmstad Sports Museum on the first floor to see legendary cups and equipment from the city's outstanding athletes. During the winter season (from September to March), the arena invites everyone to public ice skating sessions — a great way to experience a true Scandinavian leisure atmosphere.

Getting There

Getting to this sports center is easy, as it is located just 3–4 kilometers from the city center. If you prefer walking, the journey takes about 40 minutes along well-maintained streets. A bicycle is perfect for a quicker trip — the city has an excellent network of bike paths leading directly to the main entrance.

Public transport is represented by regular bus routes connecting the central railway station and the airport with stops on Växjövägen. Look for routes heading toward the Sannarp sports area.

For those traveling by car, there is ample parking on the complex grounds. You can also always use a local taxi, which takes no more than 10 minutes from the city center. The facility is easy to find in navigation systems at the address: Växjövägen 11.

History & Facts

The history of this massive facility began on November 15, 2007, when the first stone was laid for the future arena. The official opening took place on February 20, 2010, and since then, the site has become the true heart of the region's sporting life. Previously, the Sannarpshallen complex stood on this site, but over time it no longer met modern requirements.

The 360 million Swedish krona project was realized by the Tengbomgruppen architectural firm on behalf of the municipality. The main goal was to create a single space where professional sports and family recreation could coexist under one roof. In 2018, the arena confirmed its international status by hosting the World Team Table Tennis Championships — one of the largest events in the history of Halland province.

Today, the complex is more than just a building; it is a symbol of the city's commitment to an active lifestyle. Memories of sporting achievements are carefully preserved here: the Sports Museum operates within the arena's walls, displaying trophies from local clubs and highlighting the city's important role as a cradle of talent in Southern Sweden.

Time Needed

The duration of your visit will depend entirely on your chosen activities. If your goal is simply to see the building's architecture or attend a specific sports match, 1–2 hours will be quite enough.

However, if you are planning a full family outing, you should set aside 3 to 5 hours. This is enough time to enjoy the Lido water park, visit the sports museum, and perhaps test your skills at the skate park or ice rink. For serious sports enthusiasts or those planning to visit a fair, the visit could last the entire day.

Working Hours

The complex operates on a convenient schedule, allowing guests to visit from early morning until late evening. On weekdays, the doors are open from 06:30 to 22:00. On weekends (Saturday and Sunday), the arena is open from 07:30 to 18:00.

Please note that the opening hours for individual areas, such as the Lido water park or the ice rink, may differ from the general schedule. Also, access to certain halls may be restricted during major concerts or international matches. It is recommended to check the event calendar on the official website before your visit.
