The hotel building is harmoniously integrated into the natural landscape and consists of two parts: the romantic historic Stammhaus building and a modern wing. Its 93 cozy rooms, most of which feature balconies overlooking the mountains or the dense forest, allow guests to feel a total connection with nature.

Formerly known under the Sheraton and Arabella brands, the hotel has undergone a full renovation and today offers its guests first-class service. What to Do

At this hotel, everyone will find something to their liking, regardless of the season. In winter, skiing takes center stage: proximity to the Parsenn lifts allows you to hit the slopes almost immediately, while cross-country skiing trails start literally at your doorstep. After an active day on the mountain, guests head to the spa center to relax in the large pool or warm up in the sauna.

For foodies, a visit to the Waldhuus Restaurant is a must. Here, in a traditional chalet atmosphere, exquisite Swiss and international cuisine is served, prepared from select farm products. In the warmer months, it is especially pleasant to spend time on the panoramic terrace, enjoying the mountain views with a glass of wine, and on winter evenings, in the Matta bar, where live music often plays by the fireplace.

Summer enthusiasts will appreciate the proximity to the golf course and numerous hiking trails through the coniferous forest. For families with children, there is a special club and a game zone for teenagers, making the hotel an excellent destination for a shared vacation. If you feel like a change of scenery, Casino Davos and the Kirchner Museum are within walking distance.

Getting There

Reaching this cozy corner on the edge of the forest is easy. The hotel is conveniently located at Mattastrasse 58, almost halfway between the Davos Dorf and Davos Platz districts. If you arrive by train from Zurich or other cities, the walk from Davos Dorf railway station takes only about 5 minutes. From Davos Platz station, the distance is approximately 3 kilometers, which can be covered by taxi or local bus.

For travelers by car, the drive from Zurich Airport takes about 2 hours (approximately 160 km) along the scenic roads of the canton of Graubünden. Both outdoor parking and an underground garage are available on-site. Thanks to its prime location, guests can easily walk to the main ski lifts — for instance, the Parsenn bottom station is just a few hundred meters away.

History & Facts

The history of this location dates back to the early 20th century. The building was erected in 1911 and originally functioned as a sanatorium, where guests came for treatment and relaxation in the healing mountain climate. One of the most famous patients of that time was Katia Mann, wife of the great writer Thomas Mann.

It was Thomas Mann's visits to his wife in the spring of 1912 that served as the starting point for creating one of the greatest works of world literature. Inspired by the atmosphere of the sanatorium and his wife's letters, he wrote his famous novel "The Magic Mountain". Today, the hotel's historic wing, known as the Stammhaus, still carefully preserves that romantic early-century atmosphere.

In 1957, the institution changed its profile and became the Waldhotel Davos. It has been owned by the von Gemmingen family for three generations. Throughout its history, the hotel has been part of well-known global chains such as Sheraton and Arabella, but in 2006, it underwent a major renovation that harmoniously combined the historic building with modern architectural solutions.

Time Needed

If you plan to visit Waldhuus Davos as a guest of the restaurant or spa center, it is worth setting aside 2 to 4 hours to fully experience its hospitable atmosphere. This is plenty of time to enjoy lunch on the panoramic terrace or relax in the pool after a forest walk.

For those choosing this location for a complete holiday, a stay of 1–2 days is the optimal choice. This timeframe allows you to unhurriedly combine active pursuits — like skiing or golf — with deep recovery in the wellness zone and immersion in the Alpine comfort of the hotel's interiors.

Working Hours

The Waldhuus Davos hotel provides round-the-clock guest reception and is open seven days a week. The reception desk is open 24 hours a day from Monday to Sunday, allowing travelers to arrive at any convenient time and always rely on staff assistance.

The restaurant, spa center, and bar have their own internal operating schedules, which may change slightly depending on the season; however, the hotel's main services remain available to visitors daily throughout the week.
