The journey to the foot of the Matterhorn begins with an important rule: Zermatt is a car-free zone. If you are traveling by car, you must leave it in the covered parking lot in the neighboring town of Täsch. From there, modern shuttle trains run every 20 minutes, reaching the center of the resort in just 12 minutes.

The most convenient way to reach the destination is by using the Swiss rail system. Trains from Geneva, Zurich, or Lausanne go to Visp, where you need to transfer to the famous Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn cog railway. This route is considered one of the most scenic in the Alps.

It is important to note that the schedule for individual sections and the highest stations may change depending on weather conditions (strong wind or heavy snowfall) and the season. Before heading out, it is recommended to check the status of specific lifts on the display boards in the town center or via the official mobile app, as the last cabins down may depart earlier than the general system closing time.
