The climate is clearly divided into two main periods: dry and wet. Winter and early spring are very mild and sunny, with average temperatures around 20°C and minimal rainfall, creating ideal conditions for tourism. Conversely, summer brings heat up to 30°C and high humidity. From May to September, there is a distinct rainy season: while temperatures remain high, the number of rainy days increases significantly, peaking in the summer months.

The climate in Pingtung can be described as tropical and warm, where sharp temperature drops are very rare. The coolest month of the year is January, with an average of around 19.0°C, making winter incredibly mild and comfortable for visitors. The heat peak traditionally occurs in July, when average temperatures reach 28.0°C, and daytime highs regularly exceed the 30°C mark.

The summer period, lasting from May to September, is characterized not only by high temperatures but also by humidity. During this time, the air often warms up to 29–31°C during the day, and nights remain very warm, with temperatures around 25°C, practically blurring the line between day and night. Due to the high number of rainy days in summer, the heat can feel more intense, creating a "sauna" effect, so travelers should be prepared for muggy weather.

Conversely, winter and early spring offer the most pleasant conditions for walking. This period is dominated by dry weather, and daytime temperatures stay in the 22–24°C range, resembling a pleasant European summer. However, it's during the winter months that daily temperature fluctuations are most noticeable: after sunset, the air can cool down to 15–17°C, so it's recommended to bring a light jacket or sweater for evening outings.

Rainfall in Pingtung is distributed unevenly throughout the year, allowing for a clear distinction between the dry and rainy seasons. Since the city is located in a warm climate zone, precipitation occurs exclusively in the form of rain. From November to March, Pingtung enters a relatively dry period.
