Kızlarağası Hanı is one of the most impressive and well-preserved historical caravanserais, located in the heart of Izmir, Turkey. This majestic building is a prime example of Ottoman architecture and an important cultural and tourist hub in the region. Built in 1744, the han served for centuries as a reliable shelter for merchants and travelers following the trade routes of the Aegean coast. Its massive walls and inner courtyard preserve the atmosphere of times gone by.
Initially, the inn was located right at the water's edge and was even used as a pier, playing a key role in the city's economic life. The lower floor housed warehouses where caravans unloaded their goods, while the upper floor contained sleeping quarters for travelers. Over time, the coastline receded, and the han found itself deeper within the city blocks, but it never lost its significance.
