What to Do

The main magnet of this place is the impeccable trails for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. Several modern lifts are at your service, including the popular Canyon Express 16 and Schoolyard Express 17. The latter is particularly good for those just taking their first steps on the slope.

In addition to active sports, you can take lessons at the professional school or simply enjoy the après-ski atmosphere. Within walking distance are well-known establishments such as Mammoth Brewing Company, where you can discuss the day's runs over a glass of a local beverage.

Don't miss the chance to ride the Village Gondola. It not only takes you to the center of town life but also offers breathtaking views of the surrounding forests and mountains. And if you want some variety, you can always go for a stroll through the scenic streets surrounding the base.

Getting There

Getting to the lodge at 1000 Canyon Blvd is quite simple, as it is conveniently located relative to the town's main transport arteries. If you are traveling by car, you can easily find your way to the complex's spacious parking lot by following the signs from the central part of the resort.

For those who prefer public transport, the town has an excellent network of free shuttle buses. Routes run along Lakeview Blvd and Canyon Blvd, providing regular connections between residential neighborhoods and the base of the mountain. One of the most scenic ways to get around is the Village Gondola, which directly connects the lively The Village area with the lodge itself.

If you are arriving from further away, the nearest regional airport is about 15 kilometers away. From there, you can quickly reach your destination by taxi or by booking a transfer, which will take no more than 20 minutes.

History & Facts

The history of this location began back in the 1960s. At that time, the area was known by the simple name "7 and 8," which corresponded to the numbers of the first chairlifts installed here. This was the era of the birth of skiing in California, when the foundations of a future world-class resort were being laid.

Later, an impressive European-style base building was constructed here. Originally, the complex was called Warming Hut 2 (or simply "The Hut"). The site only received its current and catchy name—Canyon Lodge—in the late 1990s, when management passed to the company Intrawest, which decided to refresh the location's image.

Interestingly, the 1970s was a period of a real construction boom around the complex. It was then that famous residential projects such as Mammoth West and Chamonix sprang up. Today, the area is a harmonious blend of historical heritage and modern infrastructure designed for the comfort of thousands of tourists.

Time Needed

If your goal is a full day of skiing or snowboarding, you should set aside a whole day (from 8 to 10 hours) for your visit. This will allow you to test different trails without rushing, have lunch with a mountain view, and soak up the resort atmosphere.

For those who have just stopped by to look around, grab a bite in one of the cafes, or use the rental services before heading to another part of the mountain, 2–3 hours will be quite enough. In any case, this place is worth staying a bit longer to feel the spirit of true adventure.

Working Hours

Operating hours for the ski lodge typically depend on the season and weather conditions. Traditionally, lifts begin operation early in the morning and close at sunset to ensure the safety of those on the slopes.

Since the schedule can change depending on holidays or special events, we strongly recommend checking the current schedule on the resort's official website before planning your visit.
