A significant turn in the territory's fate occurred in 1754, when Dr. Thomas Green purchased a plot of about 180 acres here. He named his estate "Stormont" or "Green Hill." For several generations, his descendants carefully expanded and improved the property: they created ponds, planted groves, and built family homes, transforming the wilderness into a thriving country estate.

In 1905, the heirs of the Green family turned the estate over to the city of Worcester. The deal was partially charitable — the city paid about 105,000 dollars for the land, which officially became a public park at the end of that year. Until the mid-20th century, the historic Green Mansion remained in the center of the park, serving as a recreation spot for citizens until it was demolished in 1957.

The park's modern appearance has been shaped over decades: the golf course opened in 1929, and in 2002, the Massachusetts Vietnam Veterans Memorial was officially dedicated. Today, Green Hill Park is rightfully listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a valuable monument of landscape and public planning.
