Travelling with pets on Express Air flights is an opportunity not to be separated from your four-legged friends during your trip. The carrier, whose main hub is located in Mexico City, maintains a loyal policy regarding pet transport; however, passenger safety and the comfort of the animals themselves remain the top priority, so compliance with established rules is a mandatory condition for boarding.
In the aircraft cabin (Hand luggage), small animals that can comfortably fit at the owner's feet are permitted. Soft carrier bags or standard-sized containers are used for this purpose. There are restrictions on the combined weight of the animal and carrier, as well as the pet's age. The main requirement is that the animal must be able to stand up and turn around freely inside the container. Please note that typically only one carrier is allowed per adult passenger.
In the baggage hold (Checked baggage), animals exceeding the limits for hand luggage are accommodated. They travel in a special heated compartment of the aircraft, where pressure and a comfortable temperature are maintained. A rigid plastic crate with a secure lock and a metal door is required for transport. The bottom of the container must be waterproof and covered with absorbent material. A copy of the animal's passport must be attached to the cage.
As Cargo is how transport is processed in special cases. This option is required for transporting very large dogs, exotic animals, or if the pet is flying unaccompanied. Such transport requires a reinforced crate that meets international standards. Shipment should be coordinated with the Express Air cargo department well in advance of the departure date.
Necessary documents are a crucial part of flight preparation. You will need an international veterinary passport and a health certificate issued by a veterinarian before the trip. A mandatory condition is having valid vaccinations administered within the required timeframes. For international flights, appropriate veterinary certificates are also required depending on the rules of the destination country.
The cost of services depends on the chosen transport option. Transport in the cabin is usually paid via a fixed fee and is considered the most economical option. The cost of a space in the baggage hold is calculated based on the total weight of the animal and the cage. It is important to consider that on international routes, tariffs may differ from prices on domestic flights.
Preparation tips will help make the flight calmer for your pet. Accustom your pet to the container in advance so they feel safe. It is not recommended to feed the animal heavily immediately before the flight to avoid motion sickness. To reduce stress, you can place a familiar toy or an item with the owner's scent in the cage. It is also worth attaching a tag with the pet's name and the owner's contact phone number to the collar.
Restrictions apply to certain species and breeds. Brachycephalic dogs (with flattened muzzles) are often not accepted for flight due to the risk of breathing problems at altitude. Rodents, reptiles, and wild animals are generally not accepted for transport on passenger flights. An exception is made for guide dogs accompanying passengers with disabilities: they are carried free of charge in the cabin provided they have a muzzle and appropriate documents.
Attention! The number of places for animals on each flight is strictly limited. Rules may change, so we strongly recommend contacting Express Air representatives directly before purchasing a ticket to confirm the possibility of transporting your pet.
