The majestic El Mechouar Palace is a true architectural gem located in the heart of Tlemcen. The former official residence of the Zayyanid dynasty is a magnificent example of Moorish art and Arab-Andalusian architecture. This site is rightfully considered one of the most important monuments of Islamic culture in the Maghreb, recalling the times when the city was a thriving center of science and art.

Once, this luxurious complex was part of a vast citadel and included a whole network of pavilions, living quarters, a mosque, and a traditional hammam. Surrounded by lush gardens, the palace inspired admiration as early as the 16th century: the famous geographer Muhammad al-Idrisi noted its exceptional architectural grace. Today, the preserved outer walls and carefully restored halls allow tourists to touch the history of the medieval state of Algeria.
The significance of this historical site was confirmed internationally in 2011, when the city was chosen by UNESCO as the Capital of Islamic Culture. Walking through the territory of El Mechouar, it is impossible not to notice the delicate work of the masters of the past, whose legacy turned an ordinary fortress into a symbol of the region's cultural identity.
