In the heart of the historic center of Tlemcen stands one of the most significant monuments of Maghreb religious architecture. The Great Mosque of Tlemcen is an exceptional example of Almoravid-era architecture and is one of the oldest surviving mosques that modern Algeria takes pride in.

Built in 1096, this majestic structure served for centuries not only as a spiritual center but also as the city's urban core. The architectural design of the mosque, which takes the form of an irregular pentagon, harmoniously combines strict lines with exquisite decor, occupying a total area of about 300 square meters.
Although the building underwent changes in 1136 under the son of the city's founder, it has carefully preserved its original features. Today, this site is a must-see for every traveler wishing to touch the authentic history of the Islamic world and see one of the best examples of medieval craftsmanship.
