What to Do

A visit to the hut is not just about the food, but about a special state of mind. The primary reason gourmets come here is for the authentic Austrian cuisine. Be sure to try the Tyrolean delicacies made from local farm products and desserts enhanced with herbs from the hut's own garden. Dining in the fresh air with a panoramic view of the Alps will be one of the highlights of your trip.

For families with children and nature lovers, the Wunderwanderweg ("Wonder Hiking Trail") will be a real discovery. This interactive walking route, created by Tanja Senn, allows adults and little guests to get to know the world of Alpine plants and medicinal herbs. If you're lucky, you can join a guided tour by Tanja herself, who is a certified herbalist and "forest bathing" guide.

During the winter, the hut turns into a hub of après-ski life, where you can unwind after conquering the Arlberg slopes to the sound of live music. In summer, it is an ideal rest stop during an extensive hike. And don't forget to check the local wine list — the Senn family is very proud of their collection, which is sure to surprise even sophisticated connoisseurs.

Getting There

Getting to this cozy corner is easy, even if you are staying in neighboring regions. If you are traveling by car from the Lech valley, the journey takes about 20 minutes via the B197 highway (a distance of approximately 18 km). In the town itself, follow Dengertstraße to house No. 503, where guest parking is provided.

For those who prefer public transport, the Postbus running from the Lech valley is an excellent option. The trip takes between 30 and 40 minutes. After getting off at the bus station, it's just a pleasant ten-minute walk through the picturesque streets. Taxis are also readily available, which is particularly convenient if you are traveling with ski equipment.

During the winter season, the hut is easily accessible to skiers and snowboarders directly from the slopes of the Arlberg region. In summer, numerous marked trails lead to it, turning the journey to the restaurant into a light and inspiring hike.

History & Facts

The history of this place began in 1982, when spouses Karl and Annemarie Senn decided to open a traditional mountain hut. The beginning was challenging: the first season was dampened by a lack of snow and unusually warm weather. However, thanks to the support of locals and ski instructors, as well as Karl's incredible charisma, the establishment quickly gained popularity and became a cult meeting spot.

Karl Senn was famous for his humor and his ability to host legendary celebrations, attracting not only regular tourists but also international celebrities. Over the years, the hut has hosted guests such as the King of Jordan, Prince Andrew, pop diva Kim Wilde, and tennis legends Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

In 2008, a new chapter in Sennhütte's history began: Tanja Senn created the unique Wunderwanderweg trail, adding an educational and nature-focused element to the gastronomic pleasure. This allowed the hut to become an attractive destination for family vacations in both winter and summer.

Today, Karl and Annemarie's life's work is managed by the second generation of the family — Markus and Tanja, and their children Fabian and Lisa are already preparing to take the reins. Over more than 40 years of existence, Sennhütte has become a true symbol of Tyrolean hospitality, where innovation harmoniously blends with long-standing traditions.

Time Needed

How much time to allocate for your visit depends on your plans. If you are stopping by just for lunch or dinner to taste the famous Tyrolean dishes, 1–1.5 hours should be sufficient. Add about another hour if you decide to take a leisurely stroll along the "Wonder Hiking Trail" and enjoy the views.

For those who want to fully immerse themselves in the Sennhütte atmosphere — listening to live music in the conservatory, taking part in a herbal garden tour with Tanja Senn, or simply sunbathing longer on the terrace with a glass of wine — it's best to set aside half a day. It is the perfect place to slow down and not rush anywhere.

Working Hours

When planning your day in the mountains, keep in mind that the hut is usually open to guests daily from 10:00 to 18:00. This is the perfect time for both a late breakfast in the fresh air and an early dinner before descending back into the valley.

Since the establishment's operation depends heavily on seasonal factors and weather conditions in the mountains, it is highly recommended to check the official website or call to confirm current status before your visit. During the off-season, the hut may be temporarily closed for maintenance.

Nearby

The surroundings of the hut offer plenty of opportunities for active recreation and cultural leisure. Exploring nearby locations will allow you to fully experience the atmosphere of this Alpine region and make your day as fulfilling as possible.
