Mu.ZEE, whose full name is Kunstmuseum aan Zee ("Art Museum by the Sea"), is one of the main cultural gems of Ostend in Belgium. This outstanding art museum specializes in Belgian art, covering the period from 1830 to the present, offering visitors a deep dive into the country's creative heritage.

Mu.ZEE was founded in 2008 following the merger of two significant art institutions: the Museum of Fine Arts and the Provincial Museum of Modern Art. The museum is housed in a remarkable building—the former SEO socialist cooperative department store, designed by the famous Belgian architect Gaston Eysselinck. This architectural design is an interesting object of study in itself, adding a unique touch to the visit.
The museum's collection includes about 3,500 items, representing various periods and movements in Belgian art. In addition to the main exhibition, Mu.ZEE has two branches: the house-museum of the famous artist James Ensor, also located in Ostend, and the Permeke Museum in Jabbeke. A visit to Mu.ZEE is an excellent opportunity to get to know the key figures and movements in Belgian art.
