General Weather Overview

The climate in Placencia can be described as typically tropical, with warmth and high humidity throughout the year. There are no drastic temperature changes here: even in the "coolest" winter months, the thermometer rarely drops below +21°C at night, while during the day, the air warms up to an average of +24…+26°C. May is the hottest month, when daytime temperatures often reach +31°C, creating ideal conditions for beach lovers.

Throughout the year, seasonality is primarily linked to rainfall. The period from February to April is considered a relatively dry season when the number of rainy days is minimal, making spring a popular time to visit. Starting from June through October, humidity rises, and the number of days with precipitation increases significantly; however, rains are often short and refreshing, not hindering the enjoyment of Belize's natural beauty.

Temperature

The resort destination of Placencia, located on the coast, is distinguished by an even and warm tropical climate. The annual temperature range here is small, making a stay comfortable in any season. January is considered the "coolest" time of the year with an average of about 23.7°C, while the peak heat usually occurs in May, when the average temperature reaches 27.8°C.

The summer period and early autumn are characterized by stable warmth. Even in the hottest months, such as May and June, the maximum daytime temperature stays around 30-31°C, creating ideal conditions for a beach holiday. "Winter" in this region of Belize is very mild and pleasant: from December to February, daytime temperatures comfortably hover at 26-27°C, allowing you to enjoy the sun without exhausting heat.

Daily temperature fluctuations here are smoothed by the influence of the sea, remaining moderate throughout the year. The difference between the daily maximum and nightly minimum is usually about 4-6 degrees. For example, in August, after a daytime 29.5°C, the night brings only a slight drop to 24.5°C. This means warm evenings are guaranteed for tourists year-round, and light clothing will be suitable 24 hours a day.

Precipitation

The climate in this region has its own specific features, and precipitation is a fairly frequent phenomenon throughout the year. Placencia is notable because even in the driest months, the probability of rain remains; however, the total volume of moisture, according to statistics, remains moderate. This often means that precipitation falls in the form of short, refreshing showers or drizzle, which will not necessarily spoil your holiday.

The conditional dry season lasts from February to April. During this period, the number of days with precipitation is minimal for this region — about 17–19 days per month. April is statistically one of the most favourable months for travelling to Belize, when rains disturb tourists least often.

With the arrival of summer, the frequency of precipitation increases noticeably. The peak humidity occurs in July and August, when up to 29 rainy days per month are recorded. At this time, an umbrella becomes a necessary accessory, as rain can fall almost daily. However, even in the rainy season, precipitation is often replaced by sunshine, sustaining the resort's lush tropical vegetation.

What to Pack

When packing for a trip to Placencia, opt for light and breathable clothing made from natural fabrics such as cotton and linen. Since the climate here is tropical and warm year-round with an average temperature of about +24...+28°C, the basis of your wardrobe will be t-shirts, shorts, summer dresses, and swimwear. Be sure to take care of protection from the active sun: bring a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and high SPF cream to comfortably spend time on the beaches of Belize.

Given the weather statistics indicating a large number of days with precipitation throughout the year (especially in summer and early autumn), it is worth preparing for possible rains. Instead of a bulky umbrella, it is better to bring a light raincoat or waterproof windbreaker, which will protect not only from water but also from the wind on the coast. We also recommend bringing comfortable footwear that dries quickly and does not slip, and for evening walks, when the temperature may drop to +21°C, a light cardigan or long-sleeved shirt will be useful.
