General Weather Overview

The climate of Caye Caulker can be described as tropical, mild, and attractive to travellers at any time of the year. Washed by the waters of the Caribbean Sea, the island is distinguished by remarkable temperature stability: it rarely gets cold here. The average air temperature fluctuates within a comfortable range from +24°C in the winter months to +29°C in May, creating ideal conditions for a beach holiday and water activities all year round.

Two distinct periods can be identified in the island's weather calendar. The drier season lasts from February to May, when the number of cloudy days decreases, and the sun shines brightest — especially in April. From June to October, the season of high humidity arrives, when rains occur much more frequently (up to 27 days a month). Nevertheless, even during this period, the temperature remains high, and tropical downpours are often short-lived, quickly giving way to the sun.

Temperature

The climate on Caye Caulker is characterised by enviable stability and warmth throughout the year, making the island an attractive destination for sun lovers. There are practically no sharp drops in temperature here: the annual temperature graph is smooth, without extreme spikes. Even in the "coolest" months, such as January and December, the average air temperature confidently stays around the 24.6–24.8°C mark, allowing visitors to enjoy a beach holiday regardless of the season.

The hottest period on the island is late spring and early summer. Peak figures are recorded in May, when the average temperature reaches 28.6°C, and during the day the air warms up to 31.2°C. The summer months (June, July, August) remain consistently hot with average values around 28°C. At this time, the heat is felt particularly strongly, creating a classic tropical resort atmosphere, ideally suited for swimming and water sports.

The winter season on Caye Caulker can be described as exceptionally mild and pleasant. In January and February, night-time temperatures rarely drop below 22°C, while during the day the air warms up to a comfortable 27°C. The difference between day and night readings throughout the year is small, averaging about 5 degrees, so the evenings here are warm and conducive to long walks by the sea without the need to wear warm clothing.

Precipitation

The climate on the island of Caye Caulker is characterised by a clear division into drier and wetter periods. Precipitation here falls exclusively in the form of rain, as the air temperature remains high all year round. The most favourable time for lovers of clear weather is the spring months, especially March and April. During this period, minimum rainfall is recorded (about 1 mm) and the lowest number of rainy days (from 9 to 12), making spring ideal for a beach holiday.

The rainy season begins to gather strength in June and continues until October. At this time, the frequency of precipitation increases significantly: for example, in September, it can rain almost daily (up to 27 rainy days), although the total volume remains moderate. The "wettest" months in terms of the amount of fallen moisture are considered June and October, when rainfall levels reach their peak of 8 mm.

The winter months occupy an intermediate position. In January and February, it rains quite often (16–18 days), but showers are usually short-lived and do not bring large amounts of water. Travellers should be prepared for changeable weather during the summer-autumn period, however, the warm tropical climate of Belize smooths over any discomfort from the rainfall.

What to Pack

Packing a suitcase for a trip to Caye Caulker should be as simple as possible: a relaxed atmosphere reigns here, and the island's motto is "Go Slow". Given the consistently warm weather with an average temperature of 24°C to 29°C year-round, the basis of your wardrobe will be light items made of natural fabrics such as cotton and linen. Shorts, tank tops, sundresses, and, of course, several swimsuits are the main items for a holiday. Since the sun in Belize is very active, be sure to bring sunscreen with a high SPF factor, a hat, and sunglasses.

Pay special attention to footwear. The island has sandy roads and no asphalt, so high heels or formal shoes are completely useless here. The best choice will be comfortable sandals, flip-flops, or light sneakers for walking. If you plan on snorkelling or swimming near the reefs, it is recommended to bring special water shoes to protect your feet from corals and stones.

Although the air temperature remains comfortable in any season, it is worth considering the likelihood of precipitation. From June to October, the number of rainy days increases (up to 24–27 days per month), so a light raincoat or a compact umbrella will be very useful. In addition, a fresh breeze may blow from the sea in the evenings, so a light windbreaker or a long-sleeved top will not take up much space but will make evening walks cosier. Also, do not forget insect repellent, which will come in handy during humid weather.
