How to get to Florianopolis

How to get there: Introduction

Florianopolis is the picturesque capital of the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil, most of which is located on the island of the same name. When planning a trip to Florianopolis, travellers can choose any convenient route: from a quick flight to an exciting road trip along the Atlantic coast. Known as the "Island of Magic", this city attracts tourists with its developed infrastructure, magnificent beaches, and a unique combination of nature and urban life.

By Plane

The fastest way to reach the resort is to take a flight to Hercílio Luz International Airport (FLN). This modern aviation hub is located directly on the island and ensures excellent connections between the city and the outside world.

If direct tickets are unavailable, a convenient alternative would be flying to neighbouring cities: Navegantes, Jaguaruna, or the major centre of Joinville. From these airports, you can easily reach your final destination via a rental car or transfer.

Travel Tips

To ensure your holiday in the capital of Santa Catarina state is as comfortable and carefree as possible, we have compiled several useful recommendations.

  1. Clothing and items. The climate here is humid subtropical. In summer (December–March), light clothing and sun protection are necessary. In winter (June–August), evenings can be cool, so it is worth bringing a windbreaker or sweater.
  2. Transport. Public buses cover the whole island but are often overcrowded. For convenience, it is better to use taxi apps (Uber, 99) or rent a car for trips to remote beaches.
  3. Finances. The official currency is the Brazilian Real (BRL). Cards are accepted almost everywhere, but it is better to carry small cash for buying snacks on the beach or souvenirs from street vendors.
  4. Health and safety. Florianopolis is one of the safest cities in the country, however, do not leave belongings unattended on the beach. The sun here is very strong; be sure to use high SPF cream.
  5. Communication. The main language is Portuguese. In tourist zones, English may be understood, but knowing basic phrases such as "Bom dia" (Good morning) and "Obrigado" (Thank you) will be very useful.
  6. Local etiquette. Brazilians are open and friendly. Greetings are often accompanied by a handshake or a light kiss on the cheek (among local women); do not be surprised by the expressive nature of the locals.
  7. What to avoid. It is not recommended to drink tap water; please buy bottled water. Also, try to avoid travelling across the bridges to the mainland and back during peak hours (morning and evening on weekdays).
  8. Additional tip. The city is the main producer of oysters in the country. Be sure to visit the Ribeirão da Ilha district to try the freshest local oysters straight from the farm.

By following these simple tips, you will be able to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the "Island of Magic" and gain unforgettable impressions from your trip.
