Imagine a place where modern urban bustle meets the majestic tranquility of ancient Rome. The Antique Forum of Augusta Traiana is a unique open-air archaeological reserve located in the heart of the city of Stara Zagora. This complex, representing the central square of the ancient city of Augusta Traiana, was accidentally discovered during construction work and is today one of the main historical gems that Bulgaria is proud of.

The main architectural dominant of the forum is the beautifully preserved theatron — a semi-circular structure with stone seats where citizens gathered in ancient times for important discussions and spectacles. Here you can also see a massive pedestal where an equestrian statue of the emperor once stood, as well as the ruins of ancient baths and colonnades. These structures date back to the 2nd century AD and impress with the precision of Roman engineering.
Today, the forum is harmoniously integrated into the urban landscape: ancient ruins sit alongside modern stands, turning the historical site into a living stage for opera festivals and concerts. The place takes on a special charm at dusk, when professional lighting colors the ancient stones in purple and blue tones, creating a truly magical atmosphere.
