History & Facts

The story of Ramen Arashi is a story of genuine passion for Japanese cuisine. The establishment is part of a well-known franchise for which ramen is not just food, but the "soul of Japan." The founder of the Kelowna location, Ryota Okada, fell in love with this dish as a teenager when he ate it almost every day while working construction.

The road to opening his own restaurant in Canada was long: after moving here in 2019, Ryota initially worked in the electrical business. However, a fateful meeting with the franchise founder, Kentaro, in Canmore inspired him to change careers. Before opening his doors, Okada completed a rigorous three-year apprenticeship, mastering all the subtleties of preparing the perfect broth and noodles.

A special role in the authenticity of the flavor is played by Ryota's wife, who is originally from Fukuoka—the birthplace of the famous Tonkotsu ramen. She also dedicated over three years to studying the culinary arts. Today, the couple develops the restaurant together, bringing authentic Japanese traditions and the warmth of family hospitality to British Columbia's gastronomic map.
