What to Do

The main reason to visit this place is the gastronomic journey. The menu is designed so that guests can try dishes together and share their impressions. Be sure to order the classics: Bacalhau a Bras (traditional Portuguese cod) or the hearty Bifana pork sandwich, which is considered a true symbol of Lisbon street food.

For those who prefer lighter flavors, there’s the signature Pulled Chicken Sandwich on a soft Portuguese bun, while fish lovers will appreciate the fried Chicharro Frito appetizer. Despite the focus on Portuguese authenticity, the menu also includes familiar North American dishes, making the restaurant an excellent choice for a group with diverse preferences.

In addition to the food, visitors can enjoy full service and a pleasant bar menu in a setting that recreates the coziness of a small European eatery. It’s a popular meeting spot for both the local Portuguese community and tourists looking to spend an evening in a warm and lively atmosphere.

History & Facts

Did you know that the opening of Tia's Place was a landmark event for the town? It was the first Portuguese restaurant to open in Strathroy, around 2018–2019. Its opening highlighted the town's deep connection to Portuguese culture, which began to take root here in the middle of the last century.

The history of the Portuguese community in this region began in 1957 with the arrival of the first settler, Henrique da Ponte, who came to work on the tobacco plantations. Over time, the community grew, and today, Portuguese heritage is an integral part of Strathroy-Caradoc's identity, making up about 10% of the municipality's population.

Today, this restaurant, along with Art'Es Bakery, serves as one of the main symbols of the Portuguese presence in the town center. It carefully preserves the traditions of the immigrants who once made up a third of the town's population, transforming them into exquisite culinary masterpieces for modern visitors.

Time Needed

To fully enjoy the atmosphere and slowly savor the chef's dishes, we recommend setting aside 1.5 to 2 hours for your visit. Portuguese cuisine encourages long conversations and thoughtful tasting, especially if you decide to order several dishes to share.

If you plan to stop by for a quick lunch on weekdays, an hour is enough to enjoy their famous sandwiches. However, an evening visit is best left open-ended to truly feel the authentic coziness of this hospitable place.

Working Hours

When planning your dinner, pay attention to the establishment's specific operating hours. The restaurant is open to guests from Tuesday to Friday, with afternoon breaks scheduled mid-week. The venue is typically closed on Mondays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Current schedule: Tuesday (4:30 PM – 8:00 PM), Wednesday and Thursday (11:00 AM – 2:00 PM and 4:30 PM – 8:00 PM), Friday (11:00 AM – 2:00 PM and 4:30 PM – 9:00 PM). As hours may change on holidays, we recommend checking the restaurant's official website before your visit.
