This park is not just a place for walking, but the result of winning an international architectural competition. Its concept is built around ecological sustainability and the restoration of the river landscape. Here you will find wet meadows, forests with rare native plants like Boldo, and spacious open areas that have become a favorite meeting spot for locals and tourists alike.

The site's multicultural character adds special value. The park's design respects the traditions of indigenous peoples, offering spaces for folk festivals and rituals. Thanks to its high rating and magnificent river views, "Isla Cautín" is rightfully considered one of the main attractions of the country's south, where nature and people coexist in perfect balance.

What to Do

There is something for everyone here: from active sports to contemplative relaxation in the shade of ancient trees. Nature lovers will appreciate the eco-trails laid through wetlands and native forests, where you can observe local flora and fauna. Be sure to climb the 12-meter observation tower, which offers a breathtaking panorama of the river and its surroundings.

For those who prefer active leisure, the park is equipped with modern sports fields, workout zones, and cycling paths. Original play areas await children, while the large central lawn is perfect for yoga, running, or a relaxed outdoor picnic. This place seems designed to slow down the rhythm of life and enjoy the moment.

The cultural life of the park is just as vibrant: festivals, concerts, and educational events are regularly held in its plazas (Cívica and Ribereña). Special attention should be paid to the ceremonial zones intended for traditional celebrations, allowing visitors to get closer to the rich cultural heritage of the Araucanía region.

Getting There

Located in the heart of Temuco, the park is incredibly accessible for travelers. The main entrance is on Avenida de los Poetas, just a few minutes' walk from the central Plaza de Armas. You can easily reach it on foot or by bicycle while enjoying the city views.

If you plan to use public transport, choose bus routes that run along Avenida Arturo Prat or Los Poetas — stops are located in the immediate vicinity of the park gates. For those arriving from Temuco Airport, a taxi or rideshare service will take about 20–30 minutes (the distance is approximately 10–15 km).

For drivers, there are convenient parking zones within the complex. The main access points to the park are organized from three sides: from the north via Avenida de los Poetas, from the east via Avenida Arturo Prat, and through the park's new internal thoroughfare — Avenida Isla Cautín.

History & Facts

The history of this site is remarkable for its transformation: until 2004, the territory where this blooming garden now stands was used for maneuvers by the Tucapel Regiment. The conversion of this peripheral zone into a modern public space began in 2009 with a large-scale expansion of the road network and the construction of the first observation decks.

A landmark stage was 2011, when the municipality held an international ideas competition. The winning concept came from the Teodoro Fernandez Arquitectos bureau, which proposed creating a sustainable ecosystem that would balance urban interests with the preservation of the Cautín River's natural landscape. The project required significant investment — over 14 billion pesos were invested in creating world-class infrastructure.

The official opening of the first phase of the renovated park took place on April 21, 2022. Today, the Isla Cautín Urban Park is not just a place for walking, but a symbol of the multicultural Araucanía region, where modern urban solutions coexist with respect for the traditions of indigenous peoples. Development plans include further expansion into the territory of the neighboring islet, Isla Chica.

Time Needed

To fully enjoy the atmosphere of this place, an average visitor will need 2 to 4 hours. This is enough time for a leisurely stroll along the eco-trails, climbing the observation tower, and a bit of relaxation by the riverbank.

If you plan to have a family picnic, do some sports, or attend one of the cultural events often held here, feel free to set aside half a day. The park is vast, and every corner — from the wet meadows to the sports fields — deserves separate attention.
