The main feature of the arena is its incredible versatility. Depending on the event, its space transforms to accommodate up to 20,000 spectators for concerts, about 19,400 for intense handball matches, or 18,700 fans for dynamic hockey games. It regularly hosts performances by world stars, as well as home games for the local hockey team, the Kölner Haie. This venue has repeatedly hosted World Ice Hockey and Handball Championship matches.
The arena owes its name to its main sponsor, the chemical company Lanxess, and its impressive architectural look with the recognizable arch was designed by architect Peter Böhm. Today, the Lanxess Arena is not just a venue for events, but an iconic landmark that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually and symbolizes the modern and dynamic spirit of Cologne.
