The hotel in the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen occupies the building of the former Royal Bavarian forestry office, which gives it a special historical charm. Today, it is a modern health and leisure center where Alpine coziness is combined with high-end medical care. Das Graseck positions itself as a "mountain hideaway," perfect for those who want to escape the city bustle without sacrificing comfort.

One of the main features of this location is its proximity to the famous Partnachklamm gorge — one of the most beautiful natural monuments in the region. Here, you can find not only elegant rooms with mountain views but also a modern diagnostic center, making the property significant not just as a hotel, but as a full-fledged European-level wellness resort.

What to Do

At Das Graseck, everyone will find an activity to their liking, whether it's a quest for absolute peace or a thirst for active adventure. The hotel's main pride is its panoramic spa center. You can spend hours in the panoramic infinity pool, relaxation pools, or saunas, enjoying the views of the mountain peaks. For deep restoration, various massages and cosmetic treatments are offered.

A unique opportunity for guests is a visit to the diagnostic center. Here, you can undergo a comprehensive medical examination at the level of a modern clinic right during your vacation. The local restaurant complements the health concept, offering fine cuisine prepared from local products with individual dietary preferences in mind.

For fans of active recreation, Das Graseck offers direct access to numerous hiking trails. You can go for a peaceful walk through the forest or organize an ascent to one of the peaks with a professional trainer. In winter, the ski slopes of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen region are available to guests. And, of course, don't forget a ride on the historic Graseck cable car — this ascent in a small cabin over the gorge will give you unforgettable emotions and excellent photo opportunities.

Getting There

Reaching this secluded corner is an adventure in itself. Das Graseck is located at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level, and the most scenic way to get here is via the historic Graseckbahn cable car. Built back in 1953, it was the world's first fully automated small-cabin cable car, and it delivers guests right to the hotel doors from the town.

For those traveling by car, free parking is available at the lower station of the cable car. You can also reach the station from the center of Garmisch-Partenkirchen by local bus or taxi. Additionally, the hotel offers a free shuttle service for its guests.

If you are driving from Munich, the journey takes about an hour (approximately 90 km via the A95 autobahn). Regular trains also run between Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, making the trip convenient even without a car. The resort is open year-round, offering different but equally stunning landscapes depending on the season.

History & Facts

The history of this place began long before it became a modern wellness resort. Initially, the building served as a Royal Bavarian forestry office. It was from here in 1851 that the first official expedition to the Zugspitze departed, with the goal of erecting a cross on Germany's highest peak.

Later, the forestry station was purchased and converted into a mountain guest house, which was popular among hikers. However, tragedy struck in November 1968 when the building was completely destroyed by fire. It was rebuilt only in 1970, turning into a specialized "hiking hotel" for mountaineers and tourists.

A new chapter in the history of Das Graseck began in 2013 when it was acquired by the Weingart and Tittel families, who are medical doctors. They undertook an extensive two-year renovation, transforming the old guest house into a luxury medical resort. They managed to preserve the atmosphere of Bavarian coziness while integrating cutting-edge medical technology and modern design.

One cannot fail to mention the technical pride of this place — the Graseck cable car. Built in the mid-20th century, it still retains its nostalgic charm while remaining a reliable and unique mode of transport connecting civilization with this mountain hideaway.

Time Needed

The amount of time you should dedicate to visiting Das Graseck depends largely on your goals. If you plan to stop by as part of a walk in the area to have lunch at the panoramic restaurant and enjoy the views, 2–4 hours will be quite enough.

For those who want to fully experience the healing power of mountain air and relax in the spa area, it is better to book a stay for 1–3 days. This will provide enough time to undergo a basic check-up at the medical center, go on several hiking tours, and recharge in the pool overlooking the Alps.

Working Hours

The hotel and its main services operate daily. Generally, the administration and main relaxation areas welcome guests from 7:30 AM to 10:00 PM, Monday through Sunday. This allows for planning both early morning walks and late evenings in the spa center.

However, the operating hours of individual treatment rooms or the restaurant may vary depending on the season. Before your visit, we strongly recommend checking the information on the official website of the hotel or contacting them directly for details.
