General Weather Overview

Milos welcomes travellers with a classic Mediterranean climate typical of the Cyclades. The weather here is distinguished by enviable stability and comfort: extreme temperature fluctuations are extremely rare, and the sea breeze brings pleasant freshness. Overall, the climate can be described as moderately warm, with a high number of sunny days per year, making the island an attractive destination for relaxation in any season.

The year on the island is clearly divided into two main periods: a dry, sunny summer and a mild, wetter winter. The summer season, lasting from June to September, delights tourists with consistently clear weather and a complete absence of rainfall. The average temperature during these months stays around 23–26°C, creating ideal conditions for beach holidays and swimming in the Aegean Sea. Winter (from December to February) brings coolness and rain, yet the air temperature remains comfortable, rarely dropping below 11°C even on the coldest nights.

Transitional seasons—spring and early autumn—deserve special attention. April, May, and October offer tourists a "golden mean": the number of rainy days is minimal, and the air warms up to a pleasant 16–20°C. This time is perfect for those who want to avoid the summer heat and enjoy long walks through the picturesque corners of Greece without crowds of tourists.

Temperature

The temperature regime on Milos is characterized by mildness and a lack of extreme fluctuations, which is typical for the Greek islands. The annual temperature range varies from an average of 13.0°C in the coldest month, January, to 26.0°C in the hottest month—August. The climate here is favourable: even in the depths of winter, the thermometer practically never drops below 11-12°C, so frosts are not typical for the island.

The summer season brings consistent warmth. By June, the average temperature rises to 23.3°C, and in July and August, it reaches its peak values with daily highs around 27°C. Summer weather feels comfortably hot but not exhausting, which is ideal for a beach holiday. September maintains the summer mood with a pleasant 24.0°C, offering a "shoulder season" for those who prefer softer sun.

A unique feature of Milos's climate is the amazing stability of temperatures throughout the day. According to meteorological data, the difference between day and night readings is minimal, often amounting to just 1-2 degrees. For instance, in August, with a daily high of 27.1°C, the night temperature is around 24.8°C. This means nights here are very warm, and winters are moderately cool without a sharp drop in air temperature in the evening.

Precipitation

The climate on Milos is characterized by typical Mediterranean features with a clear division into a wet winter season and a dry summer. Precipitation here falls almost exclusively as rain; snow is an extremely rare phenomenon due to mild temperatures, which average above 10°C even in winter. If you are planning a trip during the summer months, you will likely not need an umbrella.

The wettest period lasts from November to February. The peak of rainy weather falls in December and January, when an average of 13 rainy days per month is recorded. In February, it rains slightly less often—about 10 days. At this time of year, short downpours or drizzling rains are possible, which nourish the island's greenery before the onset of the hot season.

Summer on Milos is the realm of the sun. From June to August, the probability of precipitation tends towards zero. The driest month is July, when there are usually no rainy days at all. During transitional periods—spring (April-May) and early autumn (September-October)—rains occur rarely, just 1–3 times a month, creating excellent conditions for walking and sightseeing without exhausting heat.

What to Pack

When packing for Milos during the high summer season, prioritize light clothing made from natural fabrics, such as cotton or linen, to feel comfortable in the hot weather. Be sure to bring swimwear, sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and high SPF cream, as there is practically no rainfall in July and August, and the sun is very active. Despite the heat, a light shirt or stole will be useful for evening walks by the sea to protect against the fresh sea breeze.

If your trip is planned for the off-season or winter, when the average temperature hovers around 13–16°C, the best solution is the layering principle. At this time of year, especially in December and January, the number of rainy days increases, so a windproof jacket or a high-quality raincoat will be much more practical than an umbrella due to possible gusts of wind. Regardless of the season, to explore the island's unique volcanic landscapes and walk along the cobbled streets, you will definitely need comfortable shoes with flat soles and good grip.
