In the heart of the Old Town of Rethymno, on the picturesque Platanou Square, lies one of its main gems—the Rimondi Fountain. This elegant Venetian-era monument, built in 1626, is not just a historical water source but a true work of art that has become a hallmark of the old part of the city in Greece.

Traveler photos:
The architectural appearance of the fountain is impressive in its grace. It is decorated with four columns featuring Corinthian capitals, and the main element of the composition is three stone lion heads, from whose mouths cool water still flows today. Above them, you can see the well-preserved coat of arms of the Venetian Rimondi family and Latin inscriptions such as FONTES (sources) and LIBERALITATIS (generosity), serving as a reminder of the structure's purpose.
Today, the Rimondi Fountain is not only a popular spot for photos but also an important historical monument reflecting the rich past of Rethymno. It serves as an excellent starting point for walks through the labyrinth of narrow streets, allowing travelers to touch the atmosphere of the Venetian period in Crete and enjoy the coolness on a hot day.
