History & Facts

The magnificent Amir Nezām House was built during the reign of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar. At that time, the governor of East Azerbaijan was Hasan Ali Khan Garrousi, better known as Amir Nezām. It was on his initiative that this residence was built, serving for many years as a home for high-ranking government officials and hosting foreign ambassadors.

Interestingly, the mansion maintained its status as an administrative center for a long time. However, by the end of the 20th century, the building required serious restoration to preserve its unique appearance. By the early 21st century, extensive work was carried out to restore the stucco, mirrors, and facades, allowing this private estate to become a public treasure.

Since 2006 (the year 1385 in the Iranian calendar), the house has been open to the general public as the Qajar Museum. Today, it is not just a building, but a symbol of Tabriz's prosperity in the 19th century, preserving the spirit of aristocratic Iran from that era.

Time Needed

To leisurely explore all the museum halls and pay attention to the architectural details, visitors usually need about 1.5 to 2 hours. This time is sufficient to study the exhibits on both floors and take a walk through the inner courtyard.

If you are passionate about photography or the history of Oriental art, set aside a bit more time. The play of light in the stained glass and the complex patterns on the walls invite long contemplation and the search for the perfect shot.
