Hidden among the sheer cliffs on the southern coast of the island of San Domino, the Violet Cave (or Grotta delle Viole) is one of the most poetic creations of nature in Italy. This sea cave, part of the Tremiti archipelago, attracts travelers with its incredible colors and crystal-clear waters.

The grotto gets its name from an amazing natural phenomenon: wild violets bloom on its rocky slopes right at the entrance in spring. The fragrance of the flowers and their delicate appearance against the harsh stone create a unique atmosphere that gave this secluded spot its name.
Inside the cave, a real spectacle awaits visitors. Thanks to a special type of calcareous algae covering the underwater parts of the walls, sunlight refracts and tints the water in intense turquoise and azure hues. The clarity of the sea here is so high that you can see the seabed in great detail, making the cave a significant natural site in the entire Puglia region.
