Komsomol'skoye Ozero

About

Located in the picturesque city of Taraz, Komsomolskoye Lake is an artificial reservoir that has remained a favorite vacation spot for citizens for decades. This body of water, also known by the melodic name Zerbulak, is a true oasis of coolness amidst the urban development and an important recreational area that Kazakhstan values for its welcoming atmosphere.

The lake was created along the bed of the Karasu River and covers a significant area, offering visitors the chance to escape the summer heat. Its modern name — Zerbulak, which means "clear spring" — was not given to the reservoir by chance: after a large-scale reconstruction, it is filled from deep underground wells, ensuring the water's transparency.

Today, this place is positioned as a universal recreation area. It features sandy shores and special areas for swimming, making it attractive for both young people and families with children. Despite the fact that the lake is located within the city limits, it allows you to feel at one with nature without traveling far from the central streets.

What to Do

The main magnet for visitors here is, of course, water activities. Beach areas are equipped on the shores of the lake where you can sunbathe in comfort. For the youngest guests, there is a special "paddling pool" — a shallow area where children can safely splash in the warm water under the supervision of their parents.

Fans of quiet relaxation often choose the reservoir's shores for picnics and family gatherings. The fresh air and proximity to the water create ideal conditions for taking a break from everyday worries. Thanks to the purification system and constant replenishment from wells, the water in the lake remains pleasant for swimming throughout the summer season.

If you want some variety, Mayskaya Grove is located literally next door. There, you can not only walk in the shade of the trees but also visit an equestrian club offering horse and pony rides, or stop by a small mini-zoo. This combination of beach and active recreation makes a visit to Komsomolskoye Lake fulfilling and interesting.

Getting There

Reaching this recreation area is easy, as it is located almost within the city limits at the address: 1-y pereulok Dulati, 47A. From the central part of the city, you can get here by taxi in just 10–15 minutes, and for those who prefer public transport, city bus and shuttle taxi stops are within walking distance.

If you enjoy walking, the path from Nursultan Nazarbayev Square will take about 20–30 minutes. This is a great opportunity to see the city's residential neighborhoods and smoothly transition from the city bustle to the tranquility of the water surface.

For travelers by private car, convenient access routes are provided. Neighboring park areas, such as the T. Ryskulov Park of Culture and Leisure, which are in close proximity to the lake, can serve as a landmark.

History & Facts

The history of this place began in the 1970s, when an artificial pit was dug along the Karasu River. Originally intended as a place for mass recreation for workers, the lake quickly gained popularity, becoming the city's main water gem.

However, in the early 1980s, the reservoir had to be closed for swimming due to problems with its ecological state and water purity. The period of neglect lasted for more than twenty years until a large-scale reconstruction was initiated in 2006. Specialists drilled nine deep wells and installed a modern filtration system to fill the basin with crystal-clear water.

A landmark event occurred in 2008 when, as a result of a public competition, the site received a new official name — Zerbulak, which translates as "transparent, clear spring." This name emphasizes the reservoir's renewed status as a safe and clean place for family leisure.

Today, the lake is not just a hydraulic structure but an important historical and recreational site that has experienced a second birth and has once again become a center of attraction for residents and guests of the region.

Time Needed

For classic beach relaxation and a leisurely stroll along the shore, 2–4 hours is enough for most visitors. This time is quite sufficient to refresh yourself in the water and get some sun under the warm southern sky.

If you plan to combine a visit to the lake with a trip to the neighboring Mayskaya Grove or a stop at the local equestrian club, it is worth setting aside half a day for the trip. This format will allow you to enjoy all the activities available in this part of the city without rushing.

Working Hours

As a public recreation area, the lake is usually available for visiting throughout the daylight hours. However, the operation of the equipped beaches and related services (rentals, cafes) may depend on the season and weather conditions.

To be sure of the availability of all amenities, we recommend checking information on official city portals or reviewing the latest tourist reviews before your trip.
